Garmin talk

Hi People,
I am new to this so please bare with me. I have a question reguarding saving my POIs to my Garmin Nuvi 660 or to the SD card I have installed. My POI data base is about 10 meg. I was wondering if there is any advantage to saving it directly to the unit or to the SD card?

On the Garmin site, when doing the comparison between the two models.

The 255 model states for Maps: Yes
and the 205 model states: regional.

Can someone explain what is meant by regional. I would imagine that it is restricted in some way, but to what degree.

Does anyone know how to take a POI that I downloaded to my garmin Favorites from MSN direct and move it into the POI main area. I sent a POI from MSN direct and it went into the My favorites area. However it does not come up when I do a search from the POI area.

Just read that the Garmin 650 has been discontinued by Garmin as of January 2008. Hmmmm! Just bought one! Love it! I guess that the technology is getting so much better with every passing day that what you buy today will be outdated tomorrow with a better unit!! I suspect that Garmin will stand by their product even though it is a discontinued model. What are your thoughts?

I just got back from my first use of the 370 walking in Europe, in particular, Venice. We had no internet, so I could not go into google maps and then download coordinates to the nuvi.

So mostly ended up just looking at the map and seeing when we got near Grand Canal or other places I knew about (or some points like our apt. marked before I left home).

I have downloaded the Rest Areas files (from this site) using Garmin's POI Loader. After loading them to the 260, not on a SD card ,I found them under the "Extras" button on my 260. When I push the button, "Custom POIs" comes up. When pushing it again, the Rest Areas are listed, ex."Turnout NB 1-75 MM 23.3 W" My Question is what happens now?

Hello I'm new here. Glad I finally found this place. I have had my Etrex for about 3 years now, but have just really started using it to its abilities. I bought a Jeep and have been leaving the asphalt quite regularly.

OK -

I think I (unfortunately) know the answer to both of these questions:

1. Can I make the NUVI 660 Keyboard QWERTY?

2. Can I have each letter / number "say" the letter/number instead of just beep at me?

My old Magellan 760 could do both - and I loved it!

I know that Garmin has a few newer models out that will offer the QWERTY keyboard as an option.

Ok, at first I thought I just turned the touch tones back on by accident, but after turning them off, they come back on and I have to go turn them off again. Anyone else had that happen.

I have a remote that came with my 2720. When I first tried to use it, everything worked except the page button. After figuring out that I needed that button to really use it decently, I just put it away. Decided a couple of days ago to call Garmin (still under warranty) and see what they said about it. Nice lady on the phone say "yep, sure sounds like that rocker button is broke".

Ok, I've got a VERY WEIRD problem with my Nuvi 660. When I look at my POI CSV files in Excel, some many have as many as 1000 entries HOWEVER when I try and look at them in my Nuvi 660, it will only show me a fraction of those. What I mean to say is, I get anywhere from 45-54 entires in the list before it won't allow me to scroll any further.

Yesterday, I stopped by an Office Depot near my home and was looking at the GPS devices that they carry. There was a nuvi that caught my eye. The sign said that it was a nuvi 200, but since I have one, I knew that it wasn't. what caught my eye was that it doesn't have a "car" icon, instead a triangle ala Tom Tom!

While traveling, Is there a specific zoom level at which the GPS is calibrated to. It seems to allow me to zoom in quite close but lasts for literally 1 second and zooms back out, no matter whether I'm stopped or traveling at different speeds. It always seems to take 4 taps on the + sign till it zooms no more then about a second later it zooms back out.

I am in the process of updating my cell phone and I have a NUVI 360 in the process of being delivered. Question - the sammy m510 is not on the Garmin list but it is stereo bluetooth and does voice dial, should I assume that Garmin is slow to update their list and that the phone will work? That model of phone is 1 yr old next month.

skins seem to be the big thing now-- from ipods, to blogs, winamp players, and even browsers..

it is at all possible to do it for the nuvi? i believe its possible.. and i apologize if this has been discussed or if i came out to be late on it. but i wish there was a way to rearrange how the 'WHERE TO, VIEW MAP, etc' screen would look.. the blue screen could use a lil warmth or life.

Loaded v4.4 from the Garmin site and now my blue tooth connects and disconnects with my Blackberry 8800.

It was working fine previously under the old software version.

I have tried to pair the two machines again and the problem still occurs.

Does anyone have the same issue?

Any idea how to correct this?

I'm going to create & eventually submit here my custom POI files.

After perusing some other POI files here, I have a question - it seems the format is Lat, Long, Name, Long Description.
