Zoom on Nuvi 650

While traveling, Is there a specific zoom level at which the GPS is calibrated to. It seems to allow me to zoom in quite close but lasts for literally 1 second and zooms back out, no matter whether I'm stopped or traveling at different speeds. It always seems to take 4 taps on the + sign till it zooms no more then about a second later it zooms back out.

I realize other posts have been done on zoom but I could find specifics on this one.

Thanks

Hmmmm . . .

If you don't get any responses on this, I suspect it is because nobody has a clue why this would happen. I certainly has never happened to me.

Well, I'm guessing by that

Well, I'm guessing by that response, it's not the norm.

Thanks again.

On my Nuvi 200, the zoom

On my Nuvi 200, the zoom level seems to auto-adjust based on my current speed. So, when I'm travelling at highway speeds, it zooms out quite a bit to get "the big picture". As I take an off-ramp and slow down, it zooms in for "greater detail". I have heard others mention this behavior. I'm not sure what the exact speed thresholds are, but it seems like once I exceed 50 mph, it zooms out, and once I'm below 30 mph it zooms in.

Not sure if this helps, or if this is even what you're seeing... smile

Zoom Level vs Speed

I've noticed some automatic zoom adjustment as well and always thought it had to do with speed vs. map ahead. Makes sense to me.

I never realized it does

I never realized it does that, I'll try it out tomorrow. I usually have to zoom in/out manually because I can't see enough detail.

From a nuvi 360 review (should apply to other nuvis as well):

I personally hate the automatic zoom feature.

When allowing the Garmin to route you to a destination, it zooms in to a certain preset map resolution when driving,
regardless of where you personally set the map resolution just a minute before.

The Garmin basically won't let you set your own zoom level. It will just keep overriding it and resetting the zoom level to it's own built in preference for speed and road type.

Note: This only occurs when routing to a destination. The autozoom function is disabled if using the GPS as a free roaming device - as I now do.

*And Garmin has eliminated the menu function that allowed you to turn the autozoom feature off entirely.*

zoom zoom zoom!!!!!!

When stopped it will zoom in to 30 meters but will immediately move back out to 80 meters within a second. What's the point of it zooming in that close if it stays there for less than a second?

Maybe you purchased the

Maybe you purchased the special "Mazda" version smile

But seriously, if it's changing the zoom while stationary, there's something wrong. Does it do it whether or not you're navigating?

Sure smells like customer service call to me.
