Garmin talk

Hi there,

I have been loading poi's on the SD card for a while and when I do that the garmin display a message everytime I boot it. The message basically asks me if i want to load the new data into the unit's internal memory. I simply hit cancel, everytime.

I have found using MSN live maps to find a location and download it over the air to my 750 to be very useful. You find the location by search, you can view it with bird's eye view, and send wirelessly to gps.

My Nuvi 660 notify me in some areas of red light cameras
but not in others.

I don't understand why garmin will not acknowledge if there will be internet downloading available or if I have to go and buy the 2009 map update.

The Garmin web site advised they are going to release a 2009 map update. Has anyone heard anything about it? Will the old c330 be able to use it?

My c550 dies down after about half an hour on battery power, that's why I always keep it connected to the car charger. Does anyone else have the same issue? Has anyone tried replacing the battery themselves? Thanks.

I was wondering if anyone else has tried using a car GPS for their mountain bikes. How did you mount it? How did you handle battery issues?

I have a Garmin Streetpilot c550 which I wanna mount on my handlebar (or maybe on the bike stem). I saw some cool RAM mounts but I wonder if those would be enough to minimize vibration.

I am new to Garmin... just purchased a nuvi 750 earlier this week. Previously I had a Sony NV-U73T which was a good unit... just a lot of bugs.

This is a great site with a lot to offer... and I hope to use several of these items.

I'm having difficulties programming a hotel address into my 650. When I type the address in, I get a message from my 650 that says something to the effect of "inaccurate address" Or not a correct address, BUT it is. Can someone please tell me how I can program the hotel address into my 650?

I think either Garmin have finally "lost it", or they've embarked on a personal vendetta against me!

I recently sent them 3 bug reports for the Nüvi 760 - and I know they've been received, because they showed up, fleetingly, in "My Support" @ the Garmin website. (Obviously, I can't expect them to be there every time I look )

I have a nuvi650 with 2008 maps.

If I get the 2009 update will my unlock code work or do I have to get a new code to load the update into my unit?

I was wondering if it better for the unit if I disconnect it from the suction cup mount or remove the entire mount at night. I am sure the contacts will wear out eventually. Then again if i remove the suction cup mount i will wear out the suction cup. What do you do?

This may be a simple question to answer but I haven't figured it out yet! Would someone be able to explain the difference between a POI File downloaded from POI Factory and POI's that are included with Garmins City Navigator Noth America NT 2008?

I have created a few POI files using the method described at the end of this post.

I find that the information displayed on my GPS is clustered like this:

When I click on the pushpin in MyMaps on GoogleMaps the info shows up like this:

I traveled to Florida this past weekend and noticed that garmin sometimes picks strange routes. On the 400 mile return trip, it was going to route me onto Highway 1 for 300 miles when I could run the interstate for 350 of the 500 miles. Before anyone says anything, it was set or fastest route, not shortest.

I just got my 760 today. I was poking around on Garmin's site and I ran across maps for inland lakes, and I'm wondering if those maps are only good for "marine" devices, or will they work on an "automotive" GPS?

Also, I coudn't find any info that told me the capacity of the internal memory of the 760. Does anybody know?
