How do you know?

How do you find out how many POI's are listed on your unit?

IMHO

I'm of the opinion that you can have as many POI's as memory allows, either built-in memory or SD card memory, whichever you use. IMHO SD's are slower than built-in.

total poi's

werskine is right as far I know that is the only to tell. My count is 54,000 points.

Limited only by the memory

Limited only by the memory available on the unit. On some of the older Street pilots, that is quite limited, but the Nuvi's seem to have left more space for such add-ons. I've got about 7 mb worth of POI's at the moment, with 170 mb of open memory left. I'll never have a reason to load enough POI's to fill all that.

Number of POIs

Like someone already said - I think it is limited only by size of memory card. Last time I uploaded it said I have 347,251! Of course I'll never use them all, BUT -- just in case . . . . . wink

Number of POIs

I have 498,606 right now. I have found that, if you are using sub-folders, you can only have 33 files in each folder. I don't know about the POI root but I've gotten error messages from POI loader on some of the folders and had to move some of the POI files to other folders to get them all loaded.
I've seen no difference in the performance of the unit. It does take quite awhile for all of them to be loaded by POI Loader when I update them though.

My C340 has 8811 POIs taking

My C340 has 8811 POIs taking up 826KB of storage space.

I have 36 files in a folder and get no error message.

"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

and later found out that almost all of the POI's that I had loaded were preloaded into my Nuvi when I bought it...even more were found with the 2009 download. I subsequently removed many of them.

Many campgrounds don't show up on the built-in POI's. And, of course, cameras, rest stops, low clearances are not there either. For most of the others, like stores and restaurants, Custom POI's just give you a different way to do a search. Downloading them gets a little addictive when you realize how little memory they use. I have 122,000, using less than 10 mb.

you are right there limited on the Campgrounds big time , that is what i created a big campground file, it has most NOT all but it is a work in progress, we take about 2 months off a year and travel the states camping most of the time!
