Garmin talk

The 10th of this month I bought an 855 which had 2009 maps. Garmin gave me the 2010.20 map update and now I see 2010.30 is out. If I'm interpreting their 60 day rule right I should also get the 2010.30 update right? If so, is it supposed to be automatic or do I have to call them?

I'm about to get a replacement Nuvi 780 for my Nuvi 680 from a Tiger Direct.

Question: Can I transfer the data, (favorites, icons, sounds and all other data) to my new Nuvi 780 when I get it?

How do I transfer favorites from Streetpilot c340 to nuvi 765t and keep the addresses and phone numbers. Mapsource and Easygps did not restore the addresses and phone numbers when I tried them.

Just upgraded to a 765T after using my 360 for 2+ years. I test drove a 1300T and a 1390T, but decided on the 765T (I like the blue tooth, the built-in dual microphones, and the ext mic jack).

I upgraded from 255W to 855. I copied custom POI alert & tourguide gpi files from 255W to 855 not thinking about a Wav vs. MP3 issue. 855 froze up after getting first truckstop tourguide alert. It did this several times on my trip.

Do POI files created using Wav files not work on units with MP3 players?

On the 885 T does anyone know how to CLEAR the trip log ?

I have had my 750 since Dec 2007 and have done many (all) update to firmware and maps. I have never encountered a map freeze.

Loaded the POI file Diners.Drive-Inns&Drives with 277 Locations in the file. My Garmin olny shows 50. Any Help...Thanks

When is this coming out? The year is almost up and I want my update, they promised!

Just discovered that my TourGuides do not fire the radius Proximity Alert MP3 on the Nuvi 1490.

I have a Garmin 755t, I tried to backup the entire GPS on my computer before I update the new map. However, 5 secs into the copy, the GPS turn itself on and disconnect from the computer anyone having this problem?

Traffic Camera

A man was driving when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding... Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed.

I have loaded POI files on to my Nuvi 660's 1GB SD card (FAT format) with POI Loader. Explorer shows the files are there. However, when I choose "Where To" and then "Extras", all I see is Fodor's North America..no Custom POI's. I have tried a soft reset to no avail. How do I get the unit to recognize the SD card

I'm about 74% done with download of maps...
It won't start downloading until program 'sees' the Garmin....

My question.... Does the Garmin HAVE to be connected during the entire download, or, once the map updater checks to verify the Garmin is right model and serial number, could the Garmin then be disconnected?

Reasoning: I would like to use it during the download....

When upgrading Lifetime maps, I have had this issue twice now in which: "Please select the region you would like to install on your Garmin GPS" comes up during install and will not let you choose any region because the drop down is blank.

I just received 2 new GPSr. Nuvi 465T and Zumo 550.
Got them just before work. The Nuvi worked great. Next morning I tried to register them. The Nuvi said it had to update before I could register it. It seemed to go okay, but then it locked up. "Loader" and "Loading..." displayed on the first screen along w/ Garmin's name. Couldn't do a thing. Called tech support. Played some more.

I have 755T which I like but am looking for a GPS for my wife. Recommendations concerning 855 ($230) vs 885T ($xxx) vs 1490T ($270)? 1490T has larger screen & lifetime traffic but lacks voice activation, MPE player, & Garmin locate capabilities. I'm leaning towards 855 because of the voice activation feature - does this work well? For 855 lifetime traffic would I need to add the GTM20?

Is it possible to turn a gpi file into a gpx file that can be loaded into custom POI instead of the favorites folder.

Have a new 765T and I assume that as a result of downloading some of the POI's available for it, along with them I got two Best Western Rewards spam messages that pop up from time to time and also an icon in the Tools function called Offers where the Best Western spam coupons exist.
Is this normal???? How can I get rid of them?

I have a Garmin Gps 855. How do I find out what version of Firmware I have.
