Can't copy off my GPS

I have a Garmin 755t, I tried to backup the entire GPS on my computer before I update the new map. However, 5 secs into the copy, the GPS turn itself on and disconnect from the computer anyone having this problem?

USB cable

I would try another USB cable and/or USB port. Are you using the USB cable that came with your nuvi?

Wierd bug

Windows should see the nüvi as an external drive, similar as it would see any USB memory stick. I assume you are just trying to do a drag and drop copy from the nüvi to a folder on your PC... If it is the correct USB cable, it provides both power to charge the nüvi and pass data.

Your description of what happens is the same as if you had disconnected the USB cable.

Is it possible that you have some security setting on your PC that prohibits file copies from external media and closes the connection if it sees such activity?

Kudos for taking the time to backup things up. Wish more folks did the same.

I'll second Alan's comment about the cable. Many cheap USB cables will act very flaky & cause problems when trying to use a high current draw USB device such as a GPS or external hard drive. Try a different cable if you have one.

Interestingly enough it

Interestingly enough it works with my laptop. My computer is just not the same after the power surge that fry my motherboard and part of the memory.
