Navigation lag time with new Nuvi 765T

Hi,

Just upgraded to a 765T after using my 360 for 2+ years. I test drove a 1300T and a 1390T, but decided on the 765T (I like the blue tooth, the built-in dual microphones, and the ext mic jack).

Anyway, I notice that when I hit the "go" button to start navigation, that for at least 2-3 minutes I don't get the purple "highlighted route" nor do I get the audible/voice turn by turn directions like I do with my Nuvi 360. there seems to be a "lag time" which can really suck because in those first few minutes you need to decide where to exit the parking lot, etc. you need to know which direction to go!

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I've running the very latest firmware (4.9 I think) and recently loaded 2010.30 maps

Thanks for your help!

NP

765t fast fro me

I have the 765t for 3 months now. That is one thing I like about it, it acquires satellites pretty quickly. Oddly tho, when I havent used it for a coupla weeks or so, the first satellite acquisition is pretty slow, but after that, it works real well. Wish I copuld be of more help. BTW, I updated the softwaer just last week. It didnt slow it down at all. Actually improved the touch screen accuracy some.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Acquiring satellites?

Simple checks first.
Check the main menu page to ensure that you have a good satellite fix.
Does the banner line say "Ready to navigate"?

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

.

Do you have a metallic windshield? That will slow acquisition times. You may want to get an external antenna. Gilsson makes good ones! http://www.gilsson.com/garmin_gps/garmin_antennas.htm

Second, have you put the unit in a open area to allow the HotFix to fully acquire satellites? That will make a big difference as well.

Hard reset

Hard Reset warnings:

* Note that this procedure has been known to periodically delete your favorites so back them up beforehand: From the nuvi drive, copy x:/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx to your backup location. After the hard reset, copy current.gpx back to the same folder on the nuvi but rename it temp.gpx (important). On the next power cycle, the favorites will be read from temp.gpx into the non-user accessible memory area on the nuvi where they are actually stored (current.gpx is only a shadowed backup of your favorites)

* Note that this procedure will clear all user selected settings under Tools>Settings like map view mode, navigational settings, selected vehicle, selected voice, etc. These settings will need to be re-configured afterwards. Maps, vehicles, voices and user-loaded custom POI's stored on the unit will not be disturbed.

Hard Reset Procedure:

*Note that a "power-cycle" (or power-on/power off sequence) on the nuvi 8x0/8x5 units consists of removing, then reinserting the battery into the unit. Using the power switch on the unit to power it off only puts it into a "sleep" mode.

Power the unit off. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. Reset all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data.

My 765t picks up and

My 765t picks up and calculates alot faster than my 360 did.

Clarification

I should clarify that I get locked on to the satellites very quickly once the unit is powered on (as another said a nice feature of the 765....) it's just that the actual routing for my selected route seems to have a lag time.

In other words, I can enter an address, press the big green "GO" button, and it will show my route, on the screen and say "please drive the highlighted route," but then for the first 1-2 mins it won't show my direction of travel or even if I'm going the right way. On my 360, once the route is active, if I make a wrong turn, it will immmediately say "recalculating" and show me where to go/turn to get back to the route ASAP. The 765 seems to have this 1-2 minute lag......

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks!

Ditto in what others said

After using my trusty StreetPilot C330 for 3 years, in June, I upgraded to a 765T, and mine always picks up sattellites quickly. One quirk in mine though, in certain POI files, namely my cemetery folder, it takes about 30-40 seconds to display any of the 6 cemetery files. Of the 200,000 POI files I have loaded, about 75,000 of them are in the cemetery folder. I guess i'll chalk it up to that.

Jeez, ya think? This is NOT a quirk! I think you expect way too much if you expect them to load any quicker. Wow!

@ DorkusNimrod:Can you use

@ DorkusNimrod:

Can you use the backup/hard reset procedure you describe to move your favorites from a 360 onto a 7xx or 8xx Garmin?

Thanks, Larry

I don't know where I'm going or remember where I've been...without Garmin.

.

@ loadingzone:

Yes but going from an older nuvi to a newer nuvi, you may lose phone numbers/addresses/extra data saved within the favorite. Try my method first to see how it works since it's very simple. If you lose data, then try TurboCCC's Extra POI Editor as it preserves the data that is lost in translation:
