Nuvi 660 Does Not Recognize SD Card's Custom POI's

I have loaded POI files on to my Nuvi 660's 1GB SD card (FAT format) with POI Loader. Explorer shows the files are there. However, when I choose "Where To" and then "Extras", all I see is Fodor's North America..no Custom POI's. I have tried a soft reset to no avail. How do I get the unit to recognize the SD card

.

Did you use POI Loader to load them?
Did you get a "Success" message at the end of the loading process?
Does the POI.GPI file show up when you explore the contents of the SD card with the file browser on your computer?

First of all

Format the SD to FAT 32, that's the Garmin protocol. Then, rename the SD to "Garmin SD" or whatever you wish, but name it. That should work.

Yes to all.

Yes to all.

Reformated to FAT32 and

Reformated to FAT32 and named card as you suggested. Reloaded cvs files via POI loader onto card. Verified file is on card. Same problem as indicated in original post.

.

And the "Custom POIs" header doesn't show up at all under "Extras" on your menus?

It does not show. If I load

It does not show. If I load the files onto the Garmin, it shows as well as the actual POI's, but that negates the value of an SD card. I have tried soft resets, clearing memory and loading directly onto the SD card via computer reader and using POI Loader. This is a real hair puller!

Nuvi 660 POI

I too tried to install POI's on a SD card without success. I discovered that I had to install the POI's in the POI directory on the Nuvi 660. I believe I found these instructions on the Garmin website. There should be plenty of room on the 660 since I've installed thousands of POI on mine (most of them from this site).

Then I would try a different card.

Nuvi 660 POI

I use and sd card with my 660 and always load my poi's to it. I would do like MM said and try a different card. I have had my for over 2years and never a problem. I don't even have the 660 hooked up when I load poi's. I just use the slot on the computor and then put it in the 660. Good Luck

Thanks all. Tried a

Thanks all. Tried a different CD card...still no joy. Nothing seems to work. Maybe time to head on over to Garmin tech support.

When dirt was new

and I first tried loading POI on an SD card it wouldn't work in the Nuvi until I set up a folder structure that mimicked the unit. I had to have a Garmin folder as a minimum. I went ahead and did the subfolders including one for GPX and POI. Worked fine ever since.

Dennis15061.

Make sure you are following these steps.
1.Make folder on your computer and call it My Pois
2.Put all the csv or gpx files in that folder.
3.Run poiloader.
4.When you see screen find device make sure you select SD card using the pull down window .Look for the arrow located across from device and select the SD card.
5.Click next and put mark in Install new custom Poi’s onto your device.
6.When you get to browse on poiloader select the My Pois folder on the computer.
7.If you want alerts you will need to select manual mode instead of express so you can set a distance or speed.
8.Complete running poiloader.
9.You should get message so many pois have been loaded at the end.

This worked for me.

That was the ticket! I set

That was the ticket! I set up a "Garmin" folder on the SD card along with all of the subfolder names. I did not copy any of the subfolder files from the Garmin to the SD card. I ran POIloader and restarted the Garmin and there they were! Thanks.
