3790T randomly freezes.

Over the past few months, my 3790T randomly froze several times. Usually it occurs in the middle of calculating a route. Once it froze, I could not even shut it down becaue the the touchscreen became unresponsive. What I did was hold down the power button for a very long time. Eventually it did shut down. When I restarted it, it seems to work again.

Nuvi 855 Battery Discharge Rate

The Nuvi 855 doesn't really turn off, when you switch it off it remains in standby. This allows it to wake up very quickly when you turn it on, but it slowly drains the battery unless you remove the battery or keep it on external power.

Web Updater 2.6.12 not updating Nuvi 1390lmt

Title pretty much says it all.
I've tried twice to update the maps. It goes through the motions, but no changes are made.
My computer auto-starts each morning. I get up to see the web updater is running, waiting for me to plug the Nuvi in.
I just went through the whole process last night, so I plugged the Nuvi in, and let the updater run.

3790t fix for slow route calculation.

I was playing around trying to figure which software I like best (not as buggy) and found something interesting. Each time I downgraded to a different software and selecting a route. The route would take one or two minutes to calculate (very slow). The fix around it is to disable “my trends” and then re-enable it.

Trying to figure out this POI Stuff

Hi Everyone,

Hiccups

I noticed on this trip to CA, my garmin 1490 voice will hesitate so it sounds like some hiccup. I recently updated the maps but is anyone else having that issue?

For example, it will say "turn right on Hap" "py boulevard"

Best of the "oldies"

I use a 885t in my bimmer convertible and just got a 765t for my Suzuki SUV. I have a 760 which has moved from the SUV to backup. I like to use my GPS for MP3 playback. Works great for a trip since I can listen to tunes and have navigation or phone calls automatically take priority when necessary.

the new map technology is awesome

loaded my favorites into the new 2350LMT. Pressed one of them, a Hess station, and the 2350LMT said unable to calculate route. Combine that with the nice green traffic circle as I headed into bumper to bumper traffic jams 2 days in a row, this unit is a winner winner chicken dinner! C'mon Google, shoot this dead horse called Garmin already.....

Redbox file not loading

This is a great web site and I have loaded many files on both of my
Garmin's, but I can't get the redbox file to load. I have the latest POI
Loader, v 2.6.1.0, and it stops at 0% complete on the reading data files
screen. I have a 1gb micro SD card in my 2450 with over 900mb free, all my
poi files are on the card. I downloaded the file again and get the same

Good deal on Garmin 2350LMT

Buydig.com has the popular Garmin nuvi 2350LMT 4.3" Portable GPS Navigation for $164.00 Free Shipping after Coupon Code: BUYDIGCLUB10 (Exp Soon). Tax in NJ.

With trafficTrends, your nuvi 2350LMT automatically learns daytime trends for traffic flow to improve your routes and better predict your estimated time of arrival.

Can't lock on to satellite

I am currently in Ireland with my Garmin 1300. I have been unable to lock onto satellites even though the unit shows up to 8 satellites and has at one time indicated locking onto 3 of them without "finding" its own location. Is there anything I can try that might help me lock on?
I have not had any problem with the unit in the US.

GPS use on a plane

I used my NUVI 350 on a Jet Blue flight today from NY to FL.
I asked the pilot if it was ok and was told no problem. He didn't think it would pick up a signal as it could not be used till electronic items could be turned on.

Another Zumo 660 Failed

I'm just curious. Is any one else having problems with the zumo 660? The Produst Support guy seems to think I've just been unlucky so far. Product Support says that there are no know problems with the zumo 660.

I received mine for Christmas and in March had Garmin exchange it for a new one. Yesterday evening I called Product Support again and I have another new exchange coming overnight.

Lost my phone book!

Late last week I downloaded my lifetime maps upgrade and also the software upgrade to 4.9. No problem with download on either. However, a couple of days after I was in my car and wanted to make a phone call. As usual I tapped the phone icon to bring up the phone book with the numbers from my phone (the Bluetooth is working correctly). The phone book did not appear.

Difficulties with Custom POIs and the 3790LMT

My nuvi 660's speaker decided to imitate tissue paper wrapped over a hair comb and is difficult to understand. My wife and kids bought the 3790LMT for Father's Day (although my wife has used it every day in her exhausting commute).

Garmin buys Navigon

Yesterday Garmin announced that they are buying Navigon and run it as an independent division. Navigon is a private company, son only one set of stockholder approvals is needed. Probably won't take much in terms of regulatory approval.

Didn't see this posted here.

Interesting quote from the article:

Garmin, Navigon and Dutch manufacturer TomTom, the European leader, have all seen their prospects hurt by the smartphone. Many consumers are forgoing purchases of handheld GPS devices and relying on applications in their phones instead.

Phantom Alert revisit

I have read the threads on the Phantom Alert service and was wondering if people are happy with the service? If you use a Garmin then how are the updates handled? Do you need to connect to their website regularly or would it be better to have this on a smartphone? If it is a user driven database then who is going to input a movable speedtrap?

Alerts For Rest Stops

Hi Everybody:

Just got back from a trip to Oregon, had set up my Garmin 650 for rest stop alerts at 5280 feet using the manual entry for the POI Loader. Well it only worked when you were in the rest area parking lot! It used to work exactly at the 1 mile mark. I have the sound of the toliet flushing, I changed from the sound "rest stop ahead". Any ideas?

Regards,

Norm
