3790LMT VOICE COMMANDS

Trying out the Voice Commands on the new 3790LMT. Garmin did it again. Can't use voice commands in Tools like I can with the 855, just Where To. Any adjustment in Tools has to be made manually. That sucks. Am I missing something here.

With my 3790T I change voice

With my 3790T I change voice command to my own preference and a day later it goes back to voice command. Wonder why it won't keep the change. I never did a reset or anything.

not good

I like the voice commands on my 855

Nope! The voice command options are just what you see. It can’t be edited to add more phrases and of course there is no voice remote like what came with your 855. I think the voice command is okay, not great, but okay. wink You’ll get use to it and see its not so bad lol.

What you can do, is change the word that activates "voice command" Couldn't come up with anything useful,
plus it wants quite a few characters too. Doesn't like my radio on either, gotta turn it almost off so i don't use it much.

Talking to your 37X0

Are you saying that you 'change the customizable phrase that activates the voice command menu' and a day later it returns to what it was?

If so, did you test to see if your device accepted your new phrase?

I'm using "Wake Up" as my activation phrase and it works well for me. I've never had it revert back.

Does the printed command in the balloon at 'Tools > Voice Command' reflect the 'printed' version of your activation phrase?

When you press the wrench in the upper left corner of that screen, does the screen reflect that the Voice Command is 'enabled'?

[I can't see how this would effect the voice command, it doesn't mine, but] are you using your Sleep Mode setting or are you turning your nuvi completely OFF each time?

If you think about it guys ... once you get past the screen of commands that your 3790 'wants to hear', there are many different things you can say to obtain a setting -- that are not on the original menu. wink

Of course, both you and I would like an even expanded voice control menu opportunity. I hope (but I don't have my fingers crossed) that that will come in some beautiful software update sometime -- as a gift from Garmin.

Great hardware, but allways the same problem with Garmin GPS'... lack of attention to details in software build...

3790LMT VOICE COMMANDS

Try this:

Using voice command try find address, Tucson, Street number 250, Street Pantano (pan-tan-o).
Tried this 20 times and my wife tried 10 times and she can't get it right. Why?

Do You Know How To Go To Pantano On Your Buro

It works for me with my 3790LMT

Wake Up
Find City
Change State
Arizona
Tucson
Line 1
Back
Back
Find Address
Tucson
250
Yes
North Pantano
Line 1
Yes

There are several tricks here

First you set the State then the City, but you are really not interested in going to the center of Tucson so you Back out to the main voice menu and voice Find Address (you nuvi knows at this point that you are in Arizona). You again say Tucson, but this time you are allowed to voice an address. You want to go to NORTH PANTANO.

Instead of North Pantano, you could just say Pantano and the rest of your conversation would be as follows:

Chose from the list that appears (in my case it was line three but one time it was line 1)

Line 3
Line 1 (Pantano Rd)
Line 1 (choice of N or S Pantano)(I chose North)
Yes

No guesses here. This was all personally tested by me.

As always -- speak clearly and above all build a good working relation with your nuvi's voice. wink

Works for me too

ghyamans technique worked for me.

BTW: I find you don't need to say "Line" and the number. The nüvi is OK with just saying the number.

BBTW: British Emily pronounces the city "Tuck-san" for me. smile

Another Way

Instead of saying Pantano for the Street name, spell it out letter by letter -- P-A-N-T-A-N-O and the Nuvi will accept it

The 3790 I tried wouldn't recognize anything starting with "PAN" -- Pantano, Pants, Pantomine...
