Nuvi 265WT Firmware rollback

Last month we updated the firmware on one of 2 Nuvi 265WT we own. This was done at the direction of a Garmin rep while trying to address a traffic display issue that turned out to be a problem with NavTeq, not our Nuvi units.

We want to go back to the previous version.

Since updating, the "current" device no longer displays the names of cross streets. The 2nd device, which has not been updated, continues to work fine.

A Garmin rep confirmed the issue with the update, but had no advice as to how to address the problem. No word on when, or if, another update would be issued to restore the functionality. No way to restore to the previous version of the firmware. He said the update was issued to address a problem that we had never experienced. I fully understand theres no guarantee that it may not appear future on our "un-updated" device.

I'm wondering if there may be an unsupported way of rolling back our update. Since we own 2 of the same device models, one updated, another not, I'm having difficulty to believing that the software from one cannot be copied to another.

Has anyone ever done this? I'd appreciate some guidance as to which files would allow us to step back a version so things will work properly again.

Go ahead and copy from unit to unit.

There's nothing preventing you from taking the GUPDATE.GCD file from the 265WT that wasn't upgraded and copying it to the 265WT that was upgraded. Once you've done this, reboot the nüvi and you should have the old firmware back.

A lot of members here have done the same thing.

I just did this update

I just did this update yesterday. Our problem is that we only have one unit. Any suggestions for those of us with single units?

Thanks!

Search the Internet for the

Search the Internet for the firmware you want, because Garmin removed all the old versions from their site and only keeps the latest available through webupdater.

Here's hoping. . .

Strephon-

Thank you so much for the info! This is exactly what I had hoped- just didn't know what file(s) I'd be looking to copy.

I'll grab this from our unaffected Nuvi and give it a try later this afternoon.

Many thanks!

Got maps but lost bluetooth

Well, we seemed to have traded one problem for another. Copying and reinstalling the GUPDATE.GCD file from our "un-upgraded" unit did restore our maps.

Unfortunately, it seems to have broken the Bluetooth capability. The until no longer can see any Bluetooth devices in the area, or can any devices find the Nuvi.

Anyone know if there is another file other than GUPDATE.GCD that would affect this which we should try bringing over as well?

Solved!

A search on another site referenced a similar problem that was solved by replacing the files .gcd files in the Remote Software folder.

That did the trick.

We're now back where we were a month ago with a fully functioning unit.

Thanks to all for the guidance!
