Garmin 265W - How do I restore my factory installed map?

Hello everyone.

I am now the proud owner of my very first SatNav - a Garmin 265W...

In my eagerness to install map updates onto the device, I must have done something wrong as the map does not have suffficient detail nor is it pin pointing the right position on the map...

I would like to revert back to the map that was originally installed on the device if possible, but have no idea how.

The map that was included from the factory was: City Navigator Europe NT 2010.10 Limited, Deluxe All Regions, Apr 09

The map that I installed in top of that, was: City Navigator Europe NT 2012.10 - Map only, Apr 11
- When installing the new map I was told that I could not install all of the map as there was not enough space on my device, which I thought was odd as I have no other files (like pictures etc)at all on the device.

Hope you can help me find my way again...I am lost smile

There's no way to revert back if you didn't make a backup before you did the map update.

Try re-running the map update and select as much as will fit on the unit then use MapInstall to install the rest of the maps to an SD card.

A little bit of "close the

A little bit of "close the stable door" advice in this case I'm afraid but it's worth reiterating that it's always a good idea to make a backup of anything that's newly bought, if possible, and before any major changes subsequently.

In the case of a Garmin it's easy to make a backup, just open the new drive that shows up in the drive listing when you plug it in and copy all the files and folders to a backup folder on your computer. Most Garmins are about 2GB of files, so you can always archive them off to a DVD every second backup.

If you're using Windows to copy then you'd have to make sure you also copy any hidden/system files by changing the file viewing parameters. Personally I use Total Commander, free download at:

which knocks Windows into a cocked hat when it comes to file management. Best file manager on the planet in my opinion.

Whaddya mean lack of detail?

@the OP: What do you mean by "does not have sufficient detail"? As to the lack of space, it's not odd, especially for CNEUNT 2012.10, since there are two versions: unicode and non-unicode. The unicode version is the larger of the two. Beside that, you replaced a map that was two years old with a version that had a lot more data on a device with only 2GB of space. You can try deleting all the unused help, voice, and text files which should help out in the space department, but you're likely going to have to use a SD card for the portions of Europe you cannot fit in the internal memory.

As for reverting to CNEUNT 2010.10, contact Garmin and see if they will send you the 2010.10 disc. Otherwise, you cannot go back.
