New POIs

The POIs are built into the map file.

It's "Proprietary" information and I doubt anyone here would tell you how to do it, even if they knew how.

Update the map on the old Garmin 1200 and the POIs should match the new one - but no guarantee.

CONVERT CSV

is there a simple way to convert my 'address' file in .csv to a poi file for my new garmin device?

Welcome

Welcome to the site.

Since you are new you may want to do a couple of the Beginner Exercises. To make it easy, when you click on the first link below, hold down the "Cntl" key as you left-click. That will open a new "Tab" in your browser in the "Tab" bar. Click on that 'Tab" to do the first exercise - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

The first link makes sure settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

This next link helps you get a backup by attaching your GPS to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

Now - to your question. Tell us what your "address" file really is. That way we can help you get coordinates required to locate addresses.

Oh - and have fun.

What your GPS model?

Welcome to the site!

A good first step is letting everyone know what GPS model you have? (That's after the GPS backup already suggested so I guess its really 2nd)

2nd, where do you want this address file to appear on your GPS? When you hit 'Where To?' do you want to tap on 'Favorites' and have them appear in there or tap the down arrow once where you can then tap 'Extras' and have them appear as POIs in the Custom POI folder? They are 2 different kinds of files and take 2 different approaches.

Your head will only spin for a little while you're figuring this out. Then everything will fall into place. So have fun, ask and learn.

No way. Except the new map way as explained above.
