Garmin talk

This afternoon, while I was at work, I received a text from my wife that we were going to meet family at a restaurant after work. That would mean that I would go right from work, to my car parked in a parking ramp, and head right to the restaurant.

In reading about different models and what they can and cannot do, it seems to me that Garmin is throwing away profits. Every time you launch a new model, you have separate production costs from design to tooling to software.

Questions for the body:
What is the alert distance for the Speed Camera POI file?
I set the Red Light Cameras alert at 600 ft., but I've never set an alert distance for the Speed Cameras. Nor have I ever encountered any speed cameras in my travels.
Should I be specifying an alert DISTANCE for the speed cameras? What is the default alert distance?

I have a new Win8 PC and am trying to get POI-Loader to work. It's spitting up the error message that it can't find C:\Programs Files\Garmin\SOX.EXE

There was no Garmin folder so I created one under Progam Files and put SOX.EXE in it. I also tried putting it in the POI-Loader folder.

Any suggestions?

Just a short explanation. This fall I am taking a 6,000 mile plus trip and have been busy downloading POI's that may come in handy on the drive.

I had no problem installing them after some hiccups in my Nuvi 855 for which I had a lot of assistance on POI factory. All the available icons show up when called for.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

Yesterday i used one of my Custom POI (lets say Walmart at 123 Main St)) without any problems.
Today, i got a bit lost so i clicked the 'Go Home' button on my Garmin 50LM and it keeps giving me the directions to go to that exact Walmart location again!

Last night when I updated my map, the unit told me that it didn't have enough memory, only enough for US, not the NA. If I wanted to install the whole NA map, I had to use the SD card (bigger than 2.2 GB). Therefore, I used the 4gb.

1. I thought when updated new map, the new map would replaced the old map. Why not enough memory happened here?

I just downloaded 2015.10 map to my laptop. BaseCamp says that the map is locked. Went online to unlock, but all if offered was to my GPS. How do I unlock the map so I don't have to have my laptop plugged in.

I read the posts here, but .... I could have missed it though

I do not recall seeing anything about HUD with Garmin on this forum. Has anyone had experience with it? Is it just a gimmick? I would like to have my Garmin 1450 displayed as I think it has more detail than what Garmin HUD has. Any other manufacturers have a workaround for this using your own GPS?

So I have a Garmion Nüvi® 3597LMTHD. And I have it linked to my Android with no issues; however I had a feature thought.... So while I had them both linked together I wanted to add an address that was in my phone.

Which GTM Traffic Receiver works (or works better) in Europe?
I have a GTM-35 (came with nuvi 3790) and a GTM-60 (came with nuvi 3597). Both have lifetime NA traffic subscription.
There are a few trial traffic subscriptions available for some countries in Europe.
I can also purchase traffic subscriptions for various parts of Europe.

I have a new 2014 map for my Garmin some time the gps send me in a very wrong road, so I know how to go on the right way and the gps keep....recalculation

This coming fall I will be doing a 6,000 mile plus trip and have been busy downloading any POI's I think may come in handy. A total of 55 different ones. All were installed with the current POI loader directly to a 2GB SD card.

So for my work we are constantly running addresses all day and the website we use has a "handy" feature that allows you to export all the addresses to a CSV file. What is useless about this file is that for one: the formatting of the data is wrong. if you open the CSV file with a CSV editor the first column doesn't contain coordinates, but instead it contains some other data.

My 855 has been "dropping" the speed limit display randomly for the past two or three days on routes I travel on a regular basis.

Any ideas on cause?

Get missing msvcr90.dll error when starting Base Camp; reinstalled BC; still get error. Any suggestions?

This post is exactly what Garmin sent me and since I am having trouble they decided to blame MQ for my issues. This process doesn't seem to work with the 2460 and there is plenty of supporting evidence of that on other GPS blogs. I wish it would work ....

8gb Micro SD Card

$5 for an 8gb Class 4 Micro SD Card. I have purchased from this company several times .... no issues at all.

I have no idea what happened, but my 855 will not charge using the 12volt cords anymore.

I have two cords, one has the traffic receiver in it with two lights showing that it is receiving 12 volt power and the other showing traffic receiver activity.
BOTH lights are on, the traffic light is flickering.

My second cord is just a plain 12 volt power supply.
