Well, 2014.40 is out as reported elsewhere. Here's some info:
GarminMapUpdater: The current Windows version remains 3.2.2 but it doesn't recognize that my nuvi 2460 is LMT so it offers to sell me a map update.
Ugh, I'm now updating with Garmin Express, which I had to install. It's now updating my 2460 and computer and we'll see what comes of it. I'll report back with results.
[Update] 2460: My 2460 now has just 231 MB free. The gmapprom.img file is 2,204,032KB and the jcv file, D3191120A.JCV is 480,049KB. I do see the previous D....110A.JCV file still on the device taking up 474,294KB.
[Later Update] Garmin Express did succeed in loading 2014.40 to my nuvi 750, 855 and 2460 (each done on a different Windows 7 PC) while GarminMapUpdater failed on each. Garmin Express also either loaded the map to the computer as part of the update or later as a Computer Only update. The 855, even with unneeded files (voices, etc.) removed still was only able to install the Lower 49 states, which also meant that the new map's voice recognition files were not installed. I'll try tomorrow to install Canada and Alaska via MapInstall to a SD card--or possibly try the SD clone technique.
[Febr 6, 2014 summary] Good news, bad news
The bad news is that for most folks, the old GarminMapUpdater program (Windows version 3.2.2) no longer works for map updates.
The good news is that Garmin Express seems to have matured to the point that it actually works for almost everyone. I still dislike having a program running in background that will rarely be needed without pausing or stopping some of its Windows Services, but for now, I expect that I'll keep Garmin Express on my PCs for future use. Garmin Express is also quite good now at installing maps to computer for use with Mapsource or BaseCamp.
The large jcv file for 2014.40 is available as of mid-morning today, so for the folks who have older nuvis that receive a tiny jcv file and for those split-screen nuvi owners who want a full-screen JV, it's there for us.
One great finding that will reduce the load on Garmin's servers which is something that should help Garmin and help us updaters is that Garmin Express keeps the big download stored on users computers so that users with one PC but multiple GPS devices is that a single download from the Garmin server will be sufficient to update all devices and the computer.
charlesd45 also offers the tip (see page 2) that you can configure Garmin Express to prevent it auto-launching when a nuvi is connected to a computer and configure it to Never look for updates.
Finally for this summary, the alandb clone method for installing City Navigator to an SD card (useful for those older nuvis like my 855 that are not auto-offered an install-to-SD option) works fine with Garmin Express.
2014.40 on C330
Hi,
Anyone knows if this 2014.40 will fit into the C330 without a SD card?
Several issues arise
Hi,
Anyone knows if this 2014.40 will fit into the C330 without a SD card?
First, the C330 is a 1GB device and hasn't been able to receive the full North America map update for quite some time--several years, in fact. The current map file for all of North America with 2014.40 is greater than 2GB:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/33586
Second, the Street Pilots are not auto-offered map updates to SD cards:
https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?...
so the "clone method" is needed to use a C330 with a SD-map:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/34914
Finally, it's possible that the C330 is a device unable to use files greater than 2GB in size:
http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?supportPage=nuvi%20310&caseId={b4b6e4a0-f1af-11df-ea12-000000000000}&locale=en_US
It's not clear from the above link if the C330 can access files over 2GB in size. I do see that the C5xx series can not use these large files so it may be an issue for the C3xx series as well.
In fact, some internet links suggest the C3xx series can not use SD cards larger than 2GB while others say it can:

This info may be old and possibly is outdated so you'd have some work to do to see if your C330 can access SD card larger than 2GB in size. In any event, be sure that your C330 has the latest firmware. Garmin's WebUpdater (I suggest using this) and Garmin Express (I suggest avoiding this) will let you know if your device has a software update of any sort available.
If your C330 has Lifetime Maps already, go for whatever the largest geographic update is that you can have. But if you asked about map updates thinking about buying lifetime updates (or a One-Time update) for an old C330, my thought is to forget it, keep the C330 as a backup GPS with the old map and buy a new or refurbed nuvi with Lifetime Maps built into the purchase price. The price of a refurb Nuvi with Lifetime Maps won't be that different from buying a stand-alone map update subscription for your C330.
just to add
Hi,
Anyone knows if this 2014.40 will fit into the C330 without a SD card?
Just to add to what CraigW mentions, if I remember correctly when I was still using a C330 I would have to chose a portion of the map to be loaded on the unit itself and then use a basecamp type program to load the rest of what wouldn't fit onto the SD card. It's said the c330 would only accept a 2GB card however I used a 4GB with no problem.

Have you had any issues with the show traffic feature and the lane assist on your nuvi755T?
755T
No problem with Lane Assist or Junction View on my 755T with CN NA 2014.40, although I rarely use the 755T since I got the 3597. I don't use the traffic feature as we don't have coverage in our local area. But the traffic service on the 755T was only marginally useful even when I travelled in areas that had coverage..

Download went well, so we will see how it goes from here.
I have a Nuvi 2595 and when
I have a Nuvi 2595 and when I check map update it says no new updates and my maps are 2014.30 that I think I updated a couple months ago. Why wouldn't it show me that 2014.40 has been released for update? I am using Garmin Map Updater instead of Express because it works better on my old OSX Mac 10.6 32bit computer.
If
If you updated a couple of month ago then you should already have 2014.40 since it came out on February 5th, 2014.
