SDHC

has anyone tried the new SDHC on their gpsr yet? I have a nuvi 350 that's currently using a 4gb SD. Works fine but I was curious if anyone has tried the new SDHC and if it was compatible or not.

SDHC Works Fine In A Nuvi 660

Before I bought an SD card, I checked the Garmin web site about size and type and found the answer in their FAQ section. I got a SanDisk 4GB SDHC (not the microcard) card at BestBuy and it works fine. I have it about 1/4 full (work in progress) of mp3 and m3u files.

Maybe some other users have tried a larger card, but I have not.

any NUVI 350 testers?

anyone tested this on their 350 model? It sounds like it would be compatible.

Gary or Hannah, did your Nuvi have the new SDHC logo to show compatibility? I've read on the SDHC package and it said to check for the logo for compatibility. Thanks.

SD Cards

On my 660 it will use up to a 4gb card and it works good with the SDHC, the problem you may run into is if you use the card in your card reader on your pc it may not find it as your reader is not for SDHC. I just bought a small usb card reader that will read the SDHC. and so if I want to work on the card and not have the gps hooked up I can.

Large Card for POI's

Just depends on where you put your POI's. I got rid of all the languages, help files, manuals, etc that I didn't need on my Nuvi 680. Once I did that, I now have over 200,000 POI's in it's memory, not the card. I use my card for pictures and music.

Nuvi SD Card

When I inserted the SD card to my nuvi 650 that is connected to my computer is not reading the SD card.

I called up the customer service and they said that my computer should be reading the drive called removable disk but my computer is not showing that removable disk. I did try it from a different computer and it's the same.

Am I using the wrong sd card?

Please help me out.

Thanks
Hubert

I try SDHC 4gb card in my C330 and it works. It is an over kill, but the card price was good.

I Didn't Get Another Reader

I didn't bother with a reader for the SDHC card. I leave it plugged into the Nuvi and connect the Nuvi to my PC's USB port. From there, I can read/write files all day to the SDHC card.

As far as a logo for compatibility, NO - there is nothing on the Nuvi itself or on the box it came in that indicates anything about SD cards. The only place I found any information at all that talked about SD cards, max size, or type, was in the FAQ section of the Garmin web site.

This is from the Garmin FAQ:

Question: What is the largest Secure Digital (SD) card that my nuvi can accept?

Answer:
Below is a list of units and their corresponding maximum card size:

NUVI MODEL MAX SD CARD
2xx Series 2GB
350 2GB
360 and 370 4GB
6xx Series 4GB

Also this one exception from the FAQ:

Question: What is the largest size microSD card that I can use in my X-series GPS unit?

Answer:
At this time, the 2 GB cards are the largest microSD cards that can be used for the X-series GPS units. However, the X-series GPS units are not compatible with the San Disk Ultra II cards and therefore we do not recommend using the Ultra II micro SD cards with any of the X units.

You must put an SDHC Card in an SDHC Reader, The card can no longer be read in your GPSr. A bit of a pain, but one you can work around by taking the card out of your GPSr before you hook it up to the USB port. Your computer should be able to read a regular SD Card inside the GPSr. Hope that helps.

Don't I feel like an idiot? I tried the SDHC Card in my 660 like Gary A suggested - can't remember it working that way with an SDHC Card, but did with regular cards - and - Drum Roll - It Worked!! Guess you can use it in the GPSr. Thanks for the info Gary A.

thanks

Thanks for all the input. I guess I will have to give it a shot. I'm a bit on the technical side, like a few people mentioned, You'd have to use a SDHC card reader in order to read SDHC cards, unless your gpsr is compatible of reading SDHC cards, in that case all you would need to do is leave the card in your unit and plug in the usb. Although SDHC reader is backwards compatible but not the other way around (according to my research).

thanks for the specs GARY, in the past the garmin specs never posted that the Nuvi 350 could support up to 4gb but I was able to test my 4gb SD on my 350 and it works. I guess you could sometimes trust the spec to be true but still try to push it to the limits.

thanks again everyone!

SD Size limit for Garmin Nuvi

I can't speak for the Nuvi series but I filled up a 4G SDHC card with mp3's and plugged it into my Garmin SP7200. It read the card fine but the built-in mp3 player in the unit would only load a finite number of songs. Can't remember the exact numbers but I believe there was approximately 1000 song on the card but the player could only handle 500.

How do you get rid of the

How do you get rid of the extra files on the main unit if it preloaded. Also, do you know if you can change the voice by replacing the files.

The number of songs that the GPS unit can read is set in the firmware no matter how many songs are on the card. Garmin sometimes will increase this with firmware updates, but I wouldn't expect it to go above 1000.

Thought I remembered this post...

This user conducted tests and found that a large/full SD card will slow down your GPS ...

sd card

Hey poi 4433: You say you used an sd card on your c330? I thought the sd card usability on that unit was nil. What did you use it for?

From my past experience, the Garmin only display arround 254 title when you select the Browse - All option. However, all the songs were there, you'll have to play them by album name or play list to play them.

Nunber of song showing

In my Nuvi750 4gb sdhc card I have 1130 MP3 files, 580 Music and 23 books with a total of 550 chapters.

When I go to BROWSE and ALL and then step through all the pages I get a count of 1048 showing up.

So yes it does not show all the mp3 files but 1048 IS A LOT!!!
