what poi's would you like to see on here.

This is what makes this site so useful. If an idea has flaws, the light shines. If the idea has merit, folks figure out how to make it work. a_user made a really good point in that county sizes (and shapes) vary so much my idea of a POI doesn't really make sense after all.

In giving this more thought, it could be done at the map level, such as an overlay of all the counties. The map would then display the local county name in a corner of the screen. As one moves from county to county, the displayed name would change. This would be similar to how the route numbers "float" along the highways as the cursor moves with the map.

Anyway, this sounds like it is outside of the POI arena.

I see the Wal-Mart Sam Club bungle POI. Big file. i would like the file fow wal-mart store by itself which isa smaller file.

When in Arizona recently I was told some cameras will flash and give you a ticket if you are going over the speed limit by 6 miles and hour and some when you are 11 over. Does anyone have any data on this?

Thanks Motorcycle Mama. That does add the county lines to the map, but it doesn't show you what county you are in. At least it doesn't on the nüvi 750.

Miss POI

I added the county lines map to my GPSr last week. The accuracy needs to be improved, though - I would like to learn how the county map was created, so maybe I could help improve the coordinates. For example, the county line between Montgomery County MD and Fairfax County VA doesn't match the state boundary (which I'm assuming is more accurate). When I crossed the Potomac River, both county names did appear, however.

I am wondering if a POI for Park & Ride (bus & train) for NJ was done. I wanted to take the bus or train to manhattan but didn't know where to locate the train or bus stations where I can park and ride.

Thanks. I downloaded the text file from the link you provided. Then I imported it into Excel, and lastly saved it as a CSV file to be loaded into my Garmin nuvi. I'm taking the GPS with me to Norfolk tomorrow and will give it a try!

Any time Peter. Just keep in mind we can't post the CSV file to POIFactory because they prefer first hand data rather than switchboard listings... BTW: the program I used to do this is posted to my website..

this is my first post and i am a newbie on both posting and my nuvi

i would like to see a poi file by state, of the best places to eat in a town, as posted by the locals as opposed to the" best places" listed by paid advertising.
whenever i visit a new town i am often tired and just want to eat and crash. punching in this poi list for that town would save me a lot of time and i would leave with a better impression of an area where i had a great, reasonably priced, meal.

this may already have been done here and probably does exist, so i will apologize in advance.

Easy enough to do. I converted the file and submitted it. Not sure if it's something for the site or not, but you can do it for yourself as well.

Save the map to your MyMaps on Google Maps. Then select View in Google Earth, but instead of opening it, just save the KML.

Then go to GPS Visualizer and upload the file and save it as a GPX.

Nationwide Bed Bath & Beyond?

Looking through my c330 and MapSource, I find that pretty much all of these types of locations people mention are already in the system so I am wondering why we would need separate POIs for them? Do the newer Nuvis not have them or is there a "custom POI notification" system in place or something else I am not aware of?

I use my custom POI for routing to little known fishing holes or camping areas that are not built into the units or maps. But for WalMart and Subway and most everything else here, I don't see a need for 99% of these POI projects.

Any help explaining this would be helpful.

The map data and built-in POIs supplied by Navteq to Garmin (and others) can be 2 or more years old. The Garmin 2010 maps are ~Navteq 2008 maps.

The members here really do a great job at staying on top of store openings and closings. For example, IKEA just opened a new store in Tampa, FL. I've already sent the location information to Miss POI to update the IKEA POI file. Lets see how long it takes Navteq & Garmin to get it into their datadase.

Just to add to what Gary A said, keep in mind that the built in POIs are only a sampling of businesses/attractions. It is not intended to be all inclusive.

I believe the North America mapset has 9 million built in POIs. While this may sound like a lot, there are obviously significantly more than 9 million businesses/attractions in the US & Canada.

Wamu Bank is now Chase Bank here in CA. I'd like a new POI file for all of the combined Wamu/Chase bank and ATM locations in the US. I notice that the latest Wamu poi is from last year and the Chase ones are older too.

I see there are some POI files listing the west coast locations. I am happy to help out.

This would be easy. Just use the registered sex offenders list for a given state and used their address. You may have issues trying to keep up with the old out of date data but it would be quite simple.

There are a lot of lists of all bus stops, but I find sometimes that if I go to a P&R lot that's full, I'm scrambling to locate the next nearest one.

I was thining that a lot of people travel with their animals and it would be helpful for them to have a POI for emergency animal hospitals with locations and hours. Like which ones were nights weekend holidays only and which were 24 hours. I would be interested in helping but have no clue on how to start or figure it out.

I saw that one and it is great but I was thinking it would be cool to have one just for emergeny vets, kinda pared down a bit. There are so many vet clinics in any metrpolitan area but there are few that are open different hours. In am emergency you really don't want to ahve to weed hrough the others. If I could figure this out I could use the Animal hospital POI and weed it down, How would I do that?

I know there is already a poi file on Compass Banks, but it is only for the Denver area. Compass bank is out of Alabama and throughout the southern US. My compass bank is located in Arizona. I would like to see the Compass Bank poi fle expaned to all of the US.

Miss POI, how about a 'Pet' or 'Animal' Category in the "POI Files for US" list. I have found some things I was looking for in the alpha list (like dog parks), but with all the interest for dog parks, pet friendly hotels, and animal hospitals, why not start a category for pets? That way we (pet lovers) can find it all in one easy place?
