Hi,
MyGarmin Drivesmart 55 got reset by mistake.(kid played with it, .
Is there anyway to retrieve the lost saved places, saved trips etc?
No
Not unless you've saved them separately somewhere.
Where there's a will ... there's a way ... DriveSmart51LMT-S, DriveSmart50LMT-D, Nuvi 2508LMT-D, 1490LMT, 1310, Montana 650T, Etrex 20
Give this a try
Open Garmin Express
Connect the device
Select "Tools & Content"
Select "Utilities"
Note the "Back Up" section and the available options and chose what may apply.

Good idea
Open Garmin Express
Connect the device
Select "Tools & Content"
Select "Utilities"
Note the "Back Up" section and the available options and chose what may apply.
Assuming the OP has updated the map or software at least once with Garmin Express, and assuming that the GE Utilities/Backup is set to "Always back up favorites before performing updates," then it should be able to be connected to Garmin Express to restore the lost Favorites/SavedPlaces.
In the Future
Rather than make a favorites list in the GPS, it's always a good idea to create a file in Basecamp or Mapsource and download it to the GPS.
That way, the file is easily retrieved if necessary. It's also easier to add or modify using the PC software rater than on the GPS itself.
It may be a “good idea” but

…why go through that trouble when Garmin Express provides the functionality? We have to remember that the people on this forum represent, with respect to computer related skills, all different skill levels so the simplest and most convenient is often times the best.

Good reason to use Garmin Express......
and make sure you back up favorites every once in a while. That way if you delete by accident, loose your Garmin, it dies or it's stolen you can always go back and add your favorites to another device.
True

This true, but you need to know how to use a computer to use Garmin Express. Creating and modifying a favorite list on a GPS also requires a degree of skill. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to learn
the basics of Mapsource or Basecamp.
Computer skills aside, I disagree

Computer skills aside, I disagree. I don't use Mapsource or Basecamp. I also consider myself computer literate, having written code in my work. I will also point out that I believe that although those utilities may be functional a quick search seems to indicate a level of obsolescence. The page for Mapsourse seems to indicate the last version was Mapsource 6.16.3 (late October 2010). The page for Basecamp, specifically the software sub-section states "This information is either coming soon, not applicable, or no longer available for this product." As best I recall Basecamp support ended in 2009.
Don't get me wrong, there isn't anything wrong with Mapsource or Basecamp, there just isn't much need for them with the newer OS's being used although it is reported they seem to function properly. Garmin Express is adequate and it appears to be well supported.

I think we can agree to disagree on this subject.
I will point out however, that one of the basic functions of this forum is to create & share POI files. This requires some basic computer / software skills, whether it be Mapsource, Basecamp, or a host of other available programs.
BaseCamp
As best I recall Basecamp support ended in 2009.
BaseCamp latest version is 4.7.5 from 2023. But according to a Garmin forum thread that @SUSSAMB participated in, it's only seeing occasional bug fixes now and no new features are being planned.

Development team
Yep, the BaseCamp development team was disbanded many years ago now, not sure it was in 2009 but certainly around 10 years ago. I had a sign off message from them as the team and I were trying to improve the search feature. BaseCamp now 'is what it is'.
