I agree! I love the mom and pop burgers poi file but would to see just mom and pop eateries in general. I am sooo tired of chains!

I'd be willing to work on this.

Let me know if you need help. I have never made a POI file but I can do grunt work smile

Grinding Mills

Grist mills and apple mills would be nice. They provide a good family outing if you know where to go.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market

Fresh & Easy, or, in full, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, is a chain of small supermarkets on the West Coast of the United States. It is a subsidiary of the UK-based retailer Tesco, the world's fourth largest retailer, and is Tesco's attempt to expand into the United States. It has plans for rapid growth - the first stores opened in November 2007, and there are now (16th September 2008) 82 stores in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada.

Thanks for your offer!

POI - Pizza!

I love pizza. And some of the best pizza I have had is coal oven pizza (wood oven is pretty good too). I would not mind the POIs for the best pizza in the country too!

Haven't gotten started yet

I haven't gotten started on this yet, as I've been working on an O'reily Auto Parts POI.

I'll start a thread so everyone can contribute their favorite places.
Thanks for offering to help.

I did a quick search and didn't see any files covering regional hot springs- is there such a thing or any interest?

Thermal Springs?

Does this file not list the ones you have?

National Park Stamp Stations

My gf collects the stamps that the National Park Service has to put in this Passport thing, and often the stations to get them are difficult to find and there are few good lists of where they are; it'd be great to have a POI that covered these.

.

Send me an email and I will send you the file I made a while back of the National Park Stamps locations.

new POIs

Would love to see one for NJ State Parks. Also restaurants: ethic foods (Mexican, Vietnamese, Afghan, etc) and maybe even cheap eats in NJ. You know . . fun stuff. Thanks.

I would like to see...

I would like to see the U.S. points of Maggie Moos and ColdStone Ice cream.

I would like to see...

I would like to see PNC Bank POIs...please

Has anyone mentioned

having all major auto mfrs listed in their own distinct files. This seems like a common sense thing to have available. After all, cars and GPS kinda go together smile

There are several POI already available for various dealerships. I'm close to finishing one with over 600 locations, and that would be a small one.

How about if you helped? Try gathering the street addresses and georefs for the dealers in your state - or at least in a city and post those. Someone else may start combining the parts and eventually you will have a complete list. What stops a lot of people from working on a complete list is the sheer size of it. There would be a couple thousand Ford dealers alone, and if you include Lincoln and Mercury, you probably will add another 1000. Same for GM dealers and so on.

I would love to have...

The stations of major trains or light rail systems, such as BART in the San Francisco area or TriMet in Portland, OR. Sometimes I have to go pick people up at these stations, and I always have to look up the station addresses before I go. Great site you have here.

Babies-r-us & other Kid stores

Hi,

I am interested in getting a list of all the Babies-r-us stores in US and Canada. I have seen all Toysrus stores but not all of babiesrus are listed. Also, other kid item stores like Carters, Gymboree etc would be great to have.

Thanks,
Morpheus

Sorry, I should have looked

I did a search for BART but I must have mis-typed. It's all there already. TriMet too.

Which POIs?

Mountain Passes and Steep Grades

I travel with an RV and use various printed material as a planning tool for traversing mountain passes and other steep grades.
It would be very nice to have these locations in my GPSr and have an alert (say anything exceeding 5% for over a mile) so you have time to react as necessary.
Does this sound reasonable?
Chuck

Mountain Passes

I can work on Florida and Louisiana!! wink

Parks

I'd like to see more done with parks. Many have several trail heads and such, so it takes a little more work to come up with something good.

Gas Stations Along Blue Ridge Parkway

I know a POI file exist for the Blue Ridge Parkway, But could this file possibly include all the Gas Stations along that route.

Suggested POI's

emanjungle,
Since you asked, how about a POI for a restaurant chain by the name of "Chick-fil-a".
JeffSh

Not all states, but...

SEPTA

I am waiting for the list of SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) commuter rail stations (R1, R2, R3 ... etc.). I see someone posted NJ Transit, but what about SEPTA?

Ohio Wildlife area Rifle Ranges...

Just moved to Ohio and looking for outdoor rifle ranges that do NOT need membership. So far, looks like some of the wildlife areas have both monitored and unmonitored rifle ranges. Looking for addresses/co-ordinates....
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/wild_resourcessubhomepage/sh...
I am working on finding the actual ranges (Between their piss-poor pdf maps and google-earth...) but if somebody is already working on a poi file for this, I would love to see it/help with it.

OK, I'll admit it. I have the patience of a gnat. I have started on the 3 closest to me in Southwestern Ohio...

Hope this works for everybody... But, any help would ROCK!

It's on the list to create but it will be a few weeks due to other commitments. Which R-line are you most interested in so I know where to concentrate the work.

I created the Blue Ridge Parkway file by driving it's length.

Hendo wrote:

Simple answers to your questions:
1) There are no gas stations right on the parkway.
2) There are a good selection of stations slightly off the parkway.
3) The free travel guide you can pick up all over the place lists all the gas
stations and their mile posts.
4) To my thinking, that makes creating POI's of them superfluous.

The purpose of the file was to allow people from any location to get on the Parkway where they wanted, and once there to easily find the major attractions. Most of the POI's I created list the MP's. So if you need gas, look where you are, look at the travel guide, and poof, you have a good enough POI of coordinates for gas stations.

It has been several years since I drove any real distance on the Blue Ridge Parkway but I remember some of the stores had fuel. There were only 2 or 3 I remember driving north to south and getting off in the Carolinas.

Shell's with touchless car washes and Tim Hortons in Canada

Just 2 more thoughts:

Shell stations with touchless car washes (in US or both US and Canada), and for us Canucks Tim Horton's locations would be good. I just joined like 20 min ago, and am still looking around, so the Tim's might already be in somewhere.

POI suggestion

Golf Galaxy is a great chain for golf equipment. A POI for them would be great. Thanks

Tim Horton"s
