Coordinates of gates that are actually open, preferably the 24 hour gates. Finding an installation is easy - but it can take hours to figure out where the gate is to get on post...

The military installations would be great

I'm new to this forum and perhaps overlooking it, but it would be nice to see U.S. colleges and universities.

You must be active duty or have a CAC. While I would also like to see all military gates, I'd prefer the ones at the badge offices or visitors' centers since I always need to check in there.

For example, one I run across frequently is at Peterson AFB. I usually stay at hotels within sight of the main gate and of course my Garmin tells me to go that way, but the visitors' center gate is the west one, several miles away. Another is at NS Norfolk--that base has gates everywhere!

Ran a cursory check for Chevron diesel stations but didn't see one. I am thinking of compiling a list of Chevron diesel stations in the Northwest and possibly adding Texaco diesel later.

Close to home I know where they are. Trying to find one in a strange place can be daunting. Not UPS stores, they are easy to find but aren't open 24 hours.

Gas Stations are everywhere - but a specialized list that ONLY listed stations with DIESEL FUEL would be GREAT!

Especially as more car manufacturers are making Diesel autos (Diesel BMW's are new to the US in 2009!).

Just a quick thought here: is it possible to compile tsunami routes? Here in the Northwest, emergency services have posted road signs to indicate routes to take to obtain higher ground in the event of a tsunami.

Would love to see Suzuki motorcycle dealers and auto parts stores (besides just Napa auto parts).

A POI with the most dangerous intersections or roads would be nice... for us who travel often.

I don't know if it is a POI.... but is there a way to have your GPS beep if your are speeding.. (for those of us without cruise control)?

Any street that has a MPH on the GPS screen....

TomTom and a few other do what you want, Garmin does not.

That would be nice to have! A POI that can be set and loaded to warn you if you go over "x" amount above the speed limit [as displayed by Garmin's map information].

The only problem I see having would be that the "x" amount loaded could not be changed/adjusted on the road. There are times when I get with a pack of other cars traveling faster than I normally drive and will go over my normal limit. If I had the Speed set at [say] 9 mph, but wanted to go any speed over that figure I would get nuisance alerts that I couldn't do anything about. Of course the volume could always be turned off while purposely going over the loaded "x" amount.

On second thought - if you have the Proximity Alert set to Single Tone it would probably only warn you once...and then when you slowed down below your threshold (or the speed limit) it would re-set again for another alert.

I would like to see a poi file of ALL Compass Bank locations. I know there is one for Colorado area but not for the rest of the US. Also, a file for ALL US Valero gas stations would be nice.

While POI's of all the inland ferry terminals might be a lot to ask for, ones crossing certain bodies of water (such as the Mississippi or Ohio rivers) could certainly come in handy.

Is there anyone willing (Miss POI? ) to take all the suggested POI's requested in this thread and make an open POI project list and who (if anyone) is working on each? This might give some an opportunity to take on the task of creating a requested POI file. Take this from beyond a wish list.

CVS Pharmacies for the U.S. (or at least the Southeast).

The file contains 6306 U.S. locations from CVS the web site in May 2009. Only includes locations geocoded at street level accuracy or better.
