Lost home page (on Nuvi 3597)

After my last update on my Nuvi 3597, I lost my home page. I went to input an address and the whole page is missing. It seems that all of my saved POIs are missing too. Does anyone know how to get it back.

Reset

I would suggest a reset. Unfortunately that will typically erase all favorites. But if the device is seen by Express, you may be able to back them up before doing the reset.

Procedure is
To perform a master reset on a nuvi 3507 and 3508 series:

Start with the device turned off and unplugged from power
To verify the device is powered off and not in standby mode, press and hold down the power button until prompted to turn off the device
Power on the device
Four seconds after the first copyright screen appears press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen
Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
Touch Yes

There is also a good thread at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26136. It covers backing things up, assuming the device can be seen by a PC.

other issues

finally got to delete pop up and pressed yes but nothing happened and then screen went black. plugged it into the computer but not connecting. Is it a brick? I hope not.

:You could

You could try pressing pressing and holding the button that turns the Nuvi on for at least 30 seconds and up to a couple of minutes. Can't remember what this is called but do remember it brought my Nuvi's back from apparent death a couple of times.

…are you using a laptop? Are you possibly using a USB hub? If so eliminate the hub. If using a laptop make sure it is powered up not operated on battery and try a different USB port.

thank you

I am not using a hub. I am on a pc and plugged into the USB port. My Nuvi is not charging. I did a restore backup on Garmin Express but still no home page and past POIs. Only showws file for "add shortcuts."
It may be time to leave Garmin an just use my phone with Waze.

Up to changing the battery?

I'm making the assumption you've ruled out the cable. If so it would sound like the battery in the nuvi has died. It can be a DIY repair. A video is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj-Dj2ipgns and the battery is about $25 with all the special tools you need. See https://newpower99.com/products/garmin-nuvi-3590lmt-battery-...

battery replacment

I guess I can do that first before giving up.

Battery.

We will all be curious to hear your report when you have replaced the battery. If I were a betting man, I would put my money with John From PA, and bet that a new battery will fix it.

I checked the site and the battery offered is for the Nuvi 3590. Can the battery for the Nuvi 3590 be used in the Nuvi 3597? I was afraid to order it until I was sure. I emailed the company, NewPower99, but did not get a response.

As long as you don't want to

As long as you don't want to use GPS for travel where there are no cell towers and have an unlimited plan, it will be fine.
I would first call Garmin and ask them about it. An update bricked 2 of my Nuvis and they replaced them.

Another battery for 3597 (previous was for 3590)

Waze does require a connection.

Where he is using Waze, this is true. Google Maps downloads the maps along the chosen route and has done so for years now. A better solution all around is a third-party app. I use Here, but there are other options out there.

It sounds like a hard-reset

It sounds like a hard-reset is your only option as described above, if that doesn't work, might be gone.

HARD RESET

I am going to try a hard reset again. If that doesnt work, I will order a new battery. Unfortunately, Garmin no longer supports teh Nuvi 3597. This all happpened after my last Garmin Express update. I am hoping one of these things work. I hate to go to a new model.
