List of Custom Vehicles

As a request by someone to make it easier to find this list on a front page, I couldn't think of anyway to do it except create a new thread. Below is a list of links to Custom Vehicle Icons for your GPS compatible unit. Please link to the original thread for any discussions and how to's:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/9738

A jpg file of most of the vehicles is listed here:

Do you have the 3D file, or

Do you have the 3D file, or just the SRF for the GPS? If you send me the 3D file, I will try to make the change. If it just the SRF, it can be done in a photo editor like Photoshop, or GIMP, but might not look as nice.

Mike

Just loaded the PNG file

Just loaded the PNG file into GIMP to take a look, and it looks like it would be a job to do that. What you would probably do is create a mask layer and then mask off the areas you don't want changed (windshield, etc.). Then you can probably play with the Hue/Saturation to change the color of the car. Simply painting over the body of the car would not look good, and adjusting the hue/saturation without masking would change the color of the windshield, tires, etc..

Anyone with better photo-editing skill got an easier way?

BTW: GIMP is an Open-Source (spelled F-R-E-E) graphics program and is VERY powerful. A bit of a learning curve, but there are plenty of tutorials out there.

You'll get much better results from editing the 3D file and changing the texture color.

Mike

Tony's done it again!

looks like Tues. is his posting day!

Thanks, Mike. I really

Thanks, Mike. I really appreciate that, but I don't have the 3D file. I only have the srf file that I picked up from this site. I actually just bought my gps a week ago, so all this srf thing is very new to me. Is there a way to change the color from the srf file?

Thanks again to you and the rest. I truly appreciate it.

Not really. You can convert

Not really. You can convert the SRF to a PNG file which many graphics programs will handle. To do this you can grab the SRFbuilder from my website and use the conversion menu option.

http://sites.google.com/site/raptorbase/

Fortunately, the website posted the PNG file for us as a preview, so we can skip this step. Tonight I'll give the method I suggested yesterday a try...

I do know what that is.. something like a old jeep from the army, one with a small wheel base, all painted up a lot of colors.. you can find them in the Philippines..

Nice idea!

If you mean a jitney (or gitney), Atlantic City, NJ used to use this manufacturer for shuttling visitors around town. It is a small bus, looks alot like bus used today by Fast-track airport shuttle.

Thanks so much that is

I remember older jitneys while growing up looked a little like a bus-taxi. Although they didn't have burlap hanging off the sides or chickens in the luggage rack.

Anyone seen one of these in SRF format or in one of the 3D repositories? I did find some 3D models for sale, but I'm not that desperate.

Thanks for your help.

They are in the update program. Use Web updater and you will find them in there.

Tony's site has excellent views of the vehicles (better than Garmin Garage) and he has done so many that I have not included them in the large jpeg of all the available icons. All those vehicles in that jpeg were taken right off the nuvi itself from the picture capture. Garmin Garage tends to "dress up" the vehicles on their web page so it is not the actual view but there are a lot for me to update right now. I think it has been since about Halloween when I last updated Garmins Garage ones.

Tony, a special thanks to your well thought out webpage to display your self created icons. The Wall-E one came out really good. Keep up the good work. It's appreciated. Just a thought, next time you create a car, make the blinker brighter ever other picture when view left/right, and it will look like when you turn that the blinker is on either left or right.

Thanks, Paul

Arrow Vehicle Icons

If you mean the Garmin Webupdater it doesn't do anything for me except check for updates and update voices. If you mean they are in the Garmin Garage, I don't find anything except the 3D arrow that came with the unit.

The multi colored arrows are in the webupdater program. After it does the update there is a spot to click for additional updates and they are in there.

You're welcome, I'm glad you find useful the page there are lots of visits so I'll do my best to keep it up with it.

For the blinkers I thought about that but you know the nuvis make such a little use of the animation of the turns that I focus in finding good vehicles to post for now. What I think could be possible is animated icons for the xx5 series but I have to find some time to play around with that.

And where is djs? There are 9 more vehicles...

Tony.-

Thanks Tony!

3 Cheers for your continued efforts. As you said, lots of folks pay a visit....

vehiclesforgarminnuvi.com

vehiclesforgarminnuvi.com has become one of my favorite sites. Thank you Tony. Btw, bright colors (McLaren F1, Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR, Eve) look better on my Nuvi. Dark ones (Bugatti Veyron, Wall-E) look nice on your site but difficult to see on the GPS, even when brightness is set to 100%. Maybe it's just my deteriorating vision.

sorry Tony!
