Put them in the vehicle folder

charlie72631 wrote:

Load the custom vehicles once you have downloaded them and unzipped them. Yeah, yeah..I'm a nube.

Connect your GPS to your PC, open the garmin folder, drop the unzipped files into the vehicle folder. Select the new vehicles after the GPS reboots.

I'm using a football for my vehicle at the moment, probably will change to a halloween vehicle soon.

Garmin holiday bundle

Help! I am having trouble. When I click download I get the option of open, save or cancel. I click open and it loads and then my windows media player opens and tells me that windows media cannot play the file.

What am I doing wrong?

Zip File

The files are zipped, so you need to save it to your computer and then unzip the file. You will then see the individual vehicle files you can copy to your Garmin.

Trying it

I am going to try to save it. I am using Vista and when I do save I get save as type: Media Player. I can scroll down and click all files.

Sorry, but I cannot figure this out.

I have tried this several times and have had no luck. Will have to try it again later.

some of these are really good

I downloaded a few of the vehicles and I am impressed! I haven't loaded, but really like the Tron light cycles and the various batmobiles. I'm sure some of the replicas, i.e. lelment, jeep, scion, are good, but I drive a camry, LOL I actually like the ariel pack from garmin. I have the helicopter on most of the time.

Honda Ridgeline

I just found this thread over here
http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2...

that has the Honda Ridgeline in Red, Steel Blue, White, Grey and Black.

it also has this post
http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=352...
that describes how the user created it from the 3D viewer on the Honda website. Pretty cool idea, if like me you're not a 3D modeler.

Great idea

The 3D viewer tip is a great idea. I'm going to try it with my vehicle.

Tumbler

has anyone seen a version of the Batman Tumbler with no halo and the flaps down?

both, the halo and flaps up makes it strange to me.

i plainly dislike the halo (personal opinion)... and the flaps up always makes me think it's braking...

smaller flaps would be nice, but if the flaps are down, they wouldn't be as noticeable anyway... like in this pic.

But the red car wasn't in there. The only vehicles in there are the blue car, the blue arrow, the euro blue and the blue truck.

I just checked and they're there. 7 colors for: arrow, compact cars, Monster Trucks, and Sports Cars and street bikes.

From what you describe, You are looking at the webpage, not using webupdater. http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/

okay, color me confused

I ran webupdater and it told me that I have the most current software. Then I went into my GPS and pulled up the vehicle selections. It only shows the blue cars. I looked at the Vehicles folder on my Garmin using Windows Explorer and it shows just the .srf files for the cars previously listed. What I can't figure out is where to get the file that I assume from the format of the other file names should be called car_red.srf.

You need to continue through the process.

You are not finishing through the process.
When you hook up webupdater, it first says "click next to check for updates", after you click next, it finds your nuvi then you click next again. Whether there are updates or not, you will eventually come to a screen that says "there may be additional updates availilble for your unit, such as voice updates", click next. Here is where it will show additional vehicles and voice updates. The red car is located there as "Vehicle, SPorts Car - Red" There is also "Vehicle, Compact-Red" which is the Euro car. Just put a check in the box of the vehicle(s) you want to add and continue through the next screens.

Just...

Just follow what PaulATL said. It'll all work out for you.

day 3 of the 12 days of Christmas car is posted on Garmin's site

Landspeeder, Tumbler, Batmobile!

These look so good! I did notice that in 2D mode Garmin's vehicles appear small on the map. The above vehicles are huge in comparison. From what I can tell, my exact location is the driver's seat. Anyway, I kind of like the larger appearing vehicles as sometimes Garmin's vehicles are too small; however, these might be a tad on the big side. But I like them anyway. Thanks for the vehicles!

nuvi 250W nuvi 765T

Still no luck.

The only remaining available updates were for a Ukranian text file and a Danish voice file. http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/7343/garminfn1.jpg
I downloaded them to get to the next screen in case there was something more I was missing, but it just installed them and said 'click to finish'.

And this is my Vehicles folder after the update. http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/553/garmin2km6.jpg

I truly am lost and just about ready to give up. Only sheer frustration makes me continue to pursue this. There's obviously something I'm missing about how to do this, and it's driving me nuts that I can't figure it out what it is.

Is it my version perhaps? Is it that the red car is not available on the Nuvi 760?

"New rides"!

Thanks, PaulATL! Nice job.

there is a new airplane posted on the Garmin site ... it is not listed as the Day 8 vehicle in the 12 Days of Christmas series, so there may be another one coming today too.

Try the Wayback Machine

Check the Wayback Machine http://www.archive.org/index.php for the "All Vehicles" page http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/bundles/allvehicles.html.

When going back to April 10, 2007, you will see an older version of the page http://tinyurl.com/7kbblq and if you're lucky, the zip and srf files will be archived.

This can be tried for all broken link (404, page not found). If the page disappeared recently, (say 2 weeks or less) the google cache is good too for those 404.

Simon

Thank you, thank you thank you!

That did it! I now have my little red car. Thanks so much!

Vehicles centered at the exact location

Couple of "simple" vehicles:

The other is a circle with a little triangle inside indicating the direction of travel - My favorite!

Opening srf files

FRGG wrote:

Depends what you want to do with it. If it's only to use it in your device, just drop it in the vehicle folder, like stated above.

If you want to open it to modify the images, it's a little bit more involved.

You need to go here http://www.techmods.net/nuvi/ to upload it, convert it into an image (png) that contains all the different view angles side by side, modify it and then convert it back to srf on the same site.

Search around on the forum for more info.

It's not that hard. I did it before to change the color of a Scion to blue. It's not exactly my Chevy mini-van, but it's "van-like" enough for me. I also created one (for my personnal use) with the Google-man http://maps.google.ca/mapfiles/cb/mod_cb_scout/cb_scout_spri...
