Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? – March 2014

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Road trip to Norfolk

My last trip was from Wsashington DC to Norfolk VA for a work site visit. For a change of pace, I tried out the road less taken along US 1, US 60, US 301, and other non-interstates.

Roads were icy this morning, but much better this evening. Hoping we've seen the worst of the winter precipitation for this season.

Jihad THIS!! Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Just got back from the

Just got back from the Florida Keys. We did a little over 3000 miles and used the Red Light Camera POIs in the 765T. Florida seems to really like the RLCs.

I find we are using smartphones more often for planning during the trip to supplement the Garmin GPS. The ability to search points of interest, find interesting information about locations, restaurants, hotels, and get a good map overview is clearly superior. If not the the cost of data, and a convenient mount, I think the day of replacing the Garmin with smartphone navigation is nearly at hand.

From freezing to nearly 90 degrees F in a 2-day drive. I needed the break.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Work

DC sucks...

Work Trip

Zelienople, PA to Fishkill, NY for a few days ... and back, 6 hours one way. Used the 1450 for this trip and it was flawless. It did recalculate me once off course traveling through the mountain valleys when it thought (bouncing sat signals) I was on a road north of the Interstate I was on.

I know the way but it is amazing how accurate the time of arrival was right from the start, within a few minutes.

POI Alerts

I made the mistake of loading Walgreens POI alerts with a submarine DIVE! DIVE! alert. In my town, there is a Walgreens on every corner. It's a bit much to drive though the city.

you're learning!

Be judicious on which POI you set alerts for. That doesn't mean you can't load an alert sound with them, just don't set the trigger. The alert will play if you route to the location without a proximity.
