How many Vets are here at the POI Factory

I was just sitting here reading some of the posts and the thought hit me; How many people on here are veterans. So, I thought this may be an interesting topic. (Or, maybe not, but I think it may be interesting.)
Me? US Army Security Agency 66-70. Vietnam 67-68. (Hence the photo of The Wall in DC. Two buddies are on The Wall.)

Best and Worst Birthdays

I turn 76 today and feeling a bit nostalgic, I thought back on the best and worst birthdays I've had so far.

The best by far was my 41st when I had my first date with the beautiful girl who is now my wife of 35 years. I guess fate had a way of making up for my worst birthday which was just a year earlier.

Who's ready for snow?

I would be quite happy if we had a winter with no snow. Instead, they're predicting 6-14" of snow or more this weekend.

We have a corner lot so I have 2 blowers. An old small 2 stroke, good for tight areas, and a big 300cc 28" 2 stage. Great for the sidewalks and driveway.

interesting concept--charged twice but SOP?

Interesting when I looked at my new FiOS bill.

On my day off, I turned in the 2009 Motorola set top boxes, that have been rented all these years, for the newer VMS1100 and IPC1100, which are not even heavy enough to be paperweights!

Knowing that this is an even swap, I got to be curious why my new bill is more.

puzzling comment on CC statement

Our CC gives a 5% cash reward for gas, deducted automatically every month.

It is correct by my calculations, has always been.

Long ago I learned that a gas station can misclassify the gas transaction on purpose, i.e. instead of gasoline, they say it's for convenience store items, so the gas reward is missed. But this was 15+ years ago, never happened on this card.

Do you remember when you first did 10-digit dialing?

When I moved to PA in June 1999, two weeks later, everyone had to dial the area code along with the 7 digit phone number. I didn't know why this extra work was needed, I moved from Albany NY where we simply dialed 7 digits.

I had never heard of the area code 610--yet I've had the same home # since 2002.

HOV lane + inflatable passenger = ticket

Police in Arizona: "While we appreciate the festive flair [see photo], this is illegal & the driver received a citation for the HOV violation."

have you had many cell#'s in your lifetime?

I have had 1,2,3,4,5, and now 6.

1999-2022.

Numbers 1-4 were all company cells, so changed due to their changes.

#5 was 2010, and #6 2022.

I thought it would be very difficult/unpleasant but not really, to change a number that I've had 12 years.

very surprising--shoplifting

Walmart CEO says that shoplifting is higher than normal, and may lead to higher prices and store closures.

The higher prices we all know, but I am quite surprised that shoplifting could lead to store closures.

Also, with all the tech available, the implication seems to be that nothing is done about it by law enforcement i.e. the system?

Pearl Harbor Day

Don't forget to fly your flag today in remembrance of all that gave their lives at Pearl Harbor. I salute them and all that served or are serving now.

pinch me I'm dreaming -- health care in the public sector

My wife got a full time job with the school district.

There was some miscommunication, but net net is she can pick up the family's medical effective 1/1/23.

First of all, her cost is about 28-30% of mine. So I'll be getting a nice bump in net pay.

There are only 2 choices--a HMO and a PPO, with the HMO being more expensive, by $5/check.

The deductible is $0 on both plans.
