Birdfy cam

This past Christmas wifey gave me a Birdfy Cam. Since cancer rendered me out of service I have taken up bird watch around my home. I literally have 14 feeders of differing types around the house.

Since Christmas I've had it set up a few spots around the house checking out the birds, but the main reason I wanted it was for close up hummingbirds without scaring them away lifting a camera to my face.

Well hummer season is here in Southeastern Pennsylvania, the first week or three the males with their bright color come. Then once the females show up I'll rarely see the male, as these birds are very protective of their feeding grounds. Many a time I've one bird dive bomb another.

I put together a little movie of the birdcam capturing the hummers, with a rare appearance of a male to start it off. Here 99% of the hummers you'd see are the Ruby Throated variety. The males have the bright ruby throat and the females (and juveniles) are plain greenish white.

Terrific

Terrific.

Just wait until you get a couple of territorial males, trying to defend their air space.

At my house it's the females, chase and dive bomb each other all the time and they chase the males off too. Every year, the males show up a couple weeks ahead of the females, and once the females get here they take over. I watched one last year watching the feeders from a nearby tree and chasing anyone that came close.

Thanks for the video

I love watching the birds. My cousin has a birdbath with a cam set up and it delightful to watch the birds, and an occasional cat, come and go.

Gak!

Around here hummingbird feeders bring bears. Gak!

Thankfully no bears around here, just birds, squirrels, and an occasional stray cat, but that's in the daylight, might be some foxes racoons and skunks around, but I know there's no bears.
