Garmin talk

My nuvi 650 came with a DC adapter that plug's into the window mounting adapter. When the nuvi is installed on it the charging begins. The lighter adapter end of the plug broke and a dealer told me to plug a charging cord into the USB port on the side and it would charge that way. He even suggested that my phone adapter cord would work.

I wonder if garmin would send me the 2009 map for the computer thats in the nuvi 850

We are planning a trip down the US East coast next month and I wanted to load the Rest Areas file in my Nuvi 260.

Looking at the available files, I was wondering if the size of the POI file or the number of POI had any performance impact on loading, searching or alerting.

How can I download POI from this site to my 680, and make them work?

I was thinking about getting a Garmin Colorado, but have read a lot of bad things about them. The one that concerns me most is the screen and it's visibility. I live in an area of the country with a lot of sunlight and its mostly very bright outside. Has anyone had problems with the Colorado series? Could I be better off picking up a Garmin CSX instead?

I've just purchased a Nuvi 260W. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't provide much information on how to use the unit, so I've been reading this excellent forum.

Question #1: The unit seems to have POI's loaded. For instance, why would you need a 'reststop' or 'Starbucks' POI file? Isn't this information already loaded on the unit?

I have loaded my Custom POIs on my 260W's SD card only(not into the Units main memory). Will the 260W see and list these Custom POIs as I travel without me going to Settings,Extras and Clicking the "Custom POIs" tab? For example I have loaded the Custom POI for "Rest Areas" on the SD card. If I plot a trip will the "Rest Area" show up on the Map as I travel on Interstate?

Just compleated my first vacation trip (Detroit to Cape Cod, Boston area) with my new Garmin Nuvi 260w and it was so cool. Nice not having to rely on the wife for navigating which sometimes causes some friction. Overall this thing is a great gadget but did find it not totally fool proof and you still have to pay attention to where you are going.

Would you pay for upgrading your Nuvi 600 series to 700 Series? If so how much?

Is there any way to see how much internal memory is left on a C340? Can you delete languages that you don't use from this unit?

I used to have my security location set to my front porch, very convenient. But it turns out that my car in the driveway is close enough to that location to bypass the need to enter my PIN.

i am interested to see what results others have on there garmin gps device.

i have a nuvi 200w. when i check on the satelite status screen(by leaving pressing and holding for 4 sec, then release), i get no lower than 10 feet accuracy, but an average of 24 feet.

is that good or bad? should i even rely on what it says on there?

My nuvi 200 is mounted on my dash and connected to 12v, and I rarely take it out. When I visit the Garmin site, I can find no information about any updates. It seems a bit odd that you can't find out IF there's an update without connecting the unit and running the updater

Is there info posted anywhere else?

I have a fairly new Nuvi 760 and have recently gotten around to looking at the Tracks feature.

MapSource can upload and download tracks of where I've been. I see that MapSource has some controls to join and divide tracks. After that, I don't see what I can do with them.

Are there any useful things to do with tracks, like turn it into a route? What else can be done with tracks?

I have not yet activated my MSN Direct Receiver, and I'm not sure I ever will.

Recently I bought a Nuvi 350 & 360. The screen is much brighter and the sound is somewhat louder on the 350 compared to the 360. Also the AC and car charger are different between the two models.

Hi ... I violated the prime directive (if it ain't broke don't fix it) today and tried to update my new Nuvi 205 using the dreaded Webupdater. Well, I now have a "system software missing" message and cannot reboot/reset or turn the device off. Suggestions? I THINK reverting to version 2.7 would help BUT cannot find anything that I can load without the Webupdater.
