I have a nuvi 660, and I love it, but have a couple of questions about how it tracks on roads...and things.

1) When I'm on a calculated route, and am in the left turn lane, often, the nuvi will get ahead of me, and give me the next instruction before I've actually turned. What gives?

What would be the proper procedure for backing up a Nuvi 660 to my PC. Should I just copy all the directories and files to my PC? If at some time I needed to restore my 660 would the procedure be nothing more than copying the directories back to the 660?

How about this idea for a firmware upgrade: under "avoidances", include a sub-heading of "custom POI's". Then one could choose to use routing that would avoid a set of POI's (like Dunkin' Donuts).

Or more seriously, choosing a route that would bypass any intersections with red light cameras.

I've got an opportunity to sell my C550 for about as much as I paid for it to a friend. I'm debating as to what I'll replace it with...another C550, a Nuvi 360, a Nuvi 660? Generally, I like the C550 but I find its form factor to be bulky. So I've got some questions about the Nuvi series. Maybe someone can chime in with an opinion.

How do you add bitmaps and sounds to POI files? I don't see where this is done.

I am currently using the GTM 12 traffic reciver on two deifferent (work and home) nuvis.
Will the receiver work on a different model besides the 350 and the 350? Basically, can I take it out fo the 350 use it on a modle that supports it and then return it to the 350?

I searched the web for many weeks ( e.g. gpsnow.com - gpsonsale.com - thegpsstore.com ) before I found the best price at samsclub.com $457.88. On 7/10/07 I will be the proud owner of a new nuvi 650!

I have a question. I have set up the secret location in my 66o and it is indeed a awesome feature. But what are the boundaries and the perimeters of this secret location. Do I have to go directly to the spot and like mark it with a X that I can only read with a black light or something. Maybe I just have to be within certain perimeters of where I set it. Good question...?

Thanks to everyone that has helped me so far. Here is my next question. How do I get the custom POI's that I download from this site to show up on my map screen all the time. It would be nice if all my POI's were on screen while im driving so i could say "hey, thats there!", instead of going into my custom POI folder and selecting something.

On the Garmin 660 in the lower left hand corner during a route, it lists the estimated arrival time.

When there is no route set it displays the speed.

Is there a way to make this display the speed when a route has been set and not the estimated arrival time?

I am curious how long batteries typically last in the Garmin 660. I read from Garmin that 3-6 hours depending on use. I had the unit on 50% backlight with bluetooth off and barely got 3 hours. Any comments appreciated.

Hey everyone, im relativley new to GPS and even newer to POI files. I think the idea of sharing and creating POI's is great. I currently have a Nuvi 350 and I am running windows xp. I want to add POI's to my nuvi, so i went to the Garmin wedsite and downloaded POI Loader. I then opened an account here. The problem im having is that POI Loader isnt installing properly on my computer.

How do you delete custom pois from a garmin nuvi 660.

Does anybody know whether this signal broadcasts all the time or just periodically? I don't seem to be missing anything, but the Traffic icon only lights up periodically. Other than a few questions, I love this thing. Just wish the information was available in more areas.

What does the "Map Info" screen do on the Nuvi 350? I have two sets of maps installed in internal memory: the resident North America maps and UK/Ireland so I have two check boxes. It doesn't seem to matter if I un-check these. Both sets are still loaded at start-up and available for use. I thought you could decide which maps you want to load from several that are in memory. What am I missing?

I just tried MapSource for the first time. I loaded just the UK and Ireland maps onto the Nuvi 350 SD card and all is well. But I can't get them onto the internal memory. The file size is only 134MB so I don't believe that's an issue. I get an error message that says "There is a problem communicating with the Garmin device." Now this is strange since I just loaded the maps onto the 2GB SD card.

Greetings from I94 north of Chicago! First of all the MSN traffic didn't kick in into well into the coverage area. Then when it did it warned severe traffic ahead recalculating, but when it recalculate it did not change the route. I followed the route the 680 gave me which was through the expressway downtown. I wound up sitting in traffic for an hour. So much for the traffic feature saving time!

This should be easy but can't seem to find exactly how to do this. I see Garmin sells updates on web via SD cards.

So if I buy one of those for my c530, do I put it in the slot and it will auto update the internal memory or do I now need to keep the sd card in to use the new maps version?

I've checked the manual, and can't find this anywhere. Is there a short cut to get back to the "home page" on a C330? Depending on what you're doing, you can end up having to hit the "back" button a half-dozen times or more to get there. Seems like there ought to be an easier way.

I'll preface this with an admission of being a newbie. I have the poiloader.exe from Garmin downloaded and installed on my PC, and the file for the redlight_cameras. Then I plug my C330 into the PC (via USB), turn it on, and then request the download (on the PC) to the Garmin unit and nothing happens.
Am I missing a step somewhere? I cannot find any instructions on how to do this.
