Garmin talk

I read, somewhere, on this board about other sources besides Garmin to purchase the 2008 maps. I can't remember where I saw this and who it was. Could someone tell me who these other sources are? And what is the going cost. Thanks.

I know some of the more expensive garmin units will display the sat's that are been recieved. And most will show you the altitude. Is this option available on this entry level model? I purchased one a few months ago and I really like it. I have found the "debug" 5 seconds over the time upper right hand side. But trying the same on the signal bars does not work.

If you are talking when Garmin gives you a direction and you dont get it all , How can you get it to repeat its command I am useing a Garmin 350

Not sure if the problem is due to the extreme heat in the 'Valley of the Sun' (Phoenix, AZ) but I've had my 660 for less than three months (I'm still on the FM traffic trial period) and already having trouble keeping the unit in place.

Just got the traffic receiver GTM 12 . I have the garmin c340 . Can anyone run me through this once.
Tell me how to avoid a bad situation. I'll probably figure it out. I would really like a one time run through.

I'm new at this but can't seem to find an answer elsewhere:
I have downloaded POI files (*.csv) from here, the Garmin POI Loader software and successfully loaded the csv file onto my handheld Garmin.
Then I go to MapSource (new v2008) and "Receive from Device", but the Custom POIs don't show up in MapSource.
What am I doing wrong? Or will the Custom POIs just not transfer into MapSource?

I have noticed more than once that my eTrex Legend shows inconsistent elevation on a local lake. At the south end of the lake it showed 512 feet and 3 miles north it showed 529 feet which is approximately correct. At the time it had an accuracy of 8-10 feet. I'm pretty sure there is not a 17 foot difference in elevation or I would notice the current. Any explanation?

I've found that when I'm using my phone via Bluetooth through my Nuvi 360 that the person on the other end often gets such bad feedback that they can't continue the conversation.

Is this a common problem? Is there something that I can do to mitigate it?

I have just bought a garmin c550. How do you activate the poi's that are loaded into the system? I HAVE NO RESPONSE FROM THE DATABASE ON POI'S.

I just can't seem to find the following in any great detail in the owner's manual. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1) When I copy files to my Nuvi 360, either to the unit itself or to a SD card, do I have to copy the files into folders named "MP3" or "JPEG" in order for the unit to be able to recognize there are other files there that I wish to have it pull up?

Should I be able to manage my waypoints on my eTrex with MapSource as I can manage my Favorites on the nuvi?

I have not been able to find any info in the eTrex or MapSource documentation to indicate that this is possible.

Garmin does sell a program to do this, but I'd rather not buy another program to do what MapSource should be able to do.

I have had a Garmin Nuvi 660 for about 4 months and love it. However, at least twice on long trips it has mysteriously locked up. If you turn it off and back on everything returns to normal. Anyone else experience this?

Does anyone know how to uninstall maps on their GPS?
In trying to get back to v8 from NT 2008, was told by Garmin to just uninstall NT 2008 and reintsall v8. Unfortanately can't find any instruction as to "how to"

I was wondering if an older version of the City Navigator NT North America V7 (DVD)can be sold to someone else providing you have the unlock code for it.

I was going to bid on this version for my Garmin 76CSX but for some reason the person pulled it from the Ebay Auction. They where selling a new original with an unlock code.

I hate my long power cord. I only need one about 3ft long. Has anyone cut one in to and made it shorter?

The Garmin web site for my nuvi 660 says the latest maps are "Map Update 2008 City Navigator® North America NT". Map info in my nuvi says "City Navigator North America NT v8". These look vaguely similar. Is the web site really an update to what my nuvi has loaded?

I did a non-scientific survey of postings on this forum relating to obtaining a free update of maps for the Garmin GPS models. I was surprised at the end result, and I wanted to share it with the rest of the group.

Since so many have reported inconsistancies with Garmin's map update process, I was just curious. Please respond to this thread if you have an experience (either positive or negative) with getting the latest map version for your Garmin GPSr.
