Garmin talk

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I tried to use POI Loader to install some POI files I've downloaded from here, but I can't see them on the map after I've installed them. Did I do something wrong? I tried searching the forum before I posted. Sorry if there's already a post about this. Thanks

I have an mp3 alert file that I made for Skyline Chili Restaurants that I thought I would upload to add to the Skyline POI area but I can't figure out how to do it. I tried using the poi uploader but that only works for poi and gpx file extentions.

Making CSV Files into TourGuides – And Their Many Different Uses

I am new to the Garmin world but am surprised to see how little extra hacks there are to run on the nuvi. I brought a sansa mp3 player a couple of months back and was pleasantly surprised to find a program call rockbox that turned the unit into a dual boot device. The software added a better video/mp3 player and many games.

I'm a new Nuvi 660 user and really like it so far. We leave for 19 days in Scotland tomorrow and we're taking our Nuvi. I've got the UK maps on SD card and I've listed as favorites all the B & B's we're due to stay at. I"ve downloaded some POI's of castles, distilleries, etc.

I have two questions I am tring to answer.
1- How do I get a POI to alert when it is not on the exact route I am following. Example if I have Costco as a POI but it is 2 blocks north, and I have set the prox alert to 5000 ft, it will not alert. If I am on the street that costco is on it will alert.

If im seeing things right, which doesn't always happen, the 2009 map is out for the Garmin. I was told by the salesman, that I should receive the 2009 map update @ no charge since the Nuvi 200W that I purchased has 2008. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that? I have sent an email to Garmin support and well.....their response time seems to be a little slow.

OK, i have noticed an odd thing with the c 580 when you are playing the MP3 player and have the maps up guideing you too where you want to go the map refresh is real slow , has anyone else had this issue?

After the update to the 2009 maps I notice that on my 660 that towns are now yellow if and if your outside of the city limits they turn white like it used to be. Is this a new feature on the "higher end" models? I know two people tho have the NUVI 200's and theirs didn't turn yellow after the 09 update.

I was just experimenting with CSV files to see if I could make them directional.

Can be done on divided hiways and Interstates where the NUVI map shows 2 separate lanes for the road.

When I go to Mapquest and try to load directions onto my nuvi 350 the wrong serial number comes up. It will say that I have successfully sent the waypoints to the following devices and it will say Nuvi (unit id and then a number not at all close to mine.

I have a Garmin C330 that when you turn it on a message Cant Unlock Maps pops up.

Hi. I pushed the strength bar icon, closed the antenna and noticed it seems like the nuvi 350 is still connected to the satellites... the signal strength varies slightly on each satellite. On top it states GPS is Off -- but it looks like it's still connected?

A newbie to the GPS world here. My wife tired of me calling for directions!!

Can I obtain POI's that pertain to certain states? Where can I find them?
(golf courses, dog parks, walk trails, etc...)

I have found some files, but they have let's say 500 locations of all the Home Depots. What if I just want Washington?

Any info, tips or insight would be wonderful.

Does anyone have a database for a Garmin nuvi 760 to locate lakes and boat launches in Connecticut, New England or the USA?

How does one go about finding and/or producing this type of information to be put on a personal travel assistant.

It seems to me and anyone I have spoken to that this database would be invaluable to boaters and fishing enthusiats.

On a trip yesterday, lost satellite reception on the George Washington Bridge, got it back a minute or two later. Was this a coincidence, or are big suspension bridges associated with lost reception more generally (lots of steel, bouncing every which way, etc.)

I goofed, my question should have been, on my garmin 260, how do I turn my POI's "alerts" on??

I'm fairly new to the Garmin product and was trying to upload through the POI Loader. I created and have legitimate POI's titled Lighthouses. I placed an MP3 into the POI folder on the desktop and renamed it Lighthouses and uploaded the file to the GPS device.

Can someone please tell me the difference between a CSV file and a GPX file.
