SD Card help for the Nuvi 255w

Just got a SD memory card and loaded a bunch of POI and maps, etc which is too much to put onto device itself, and everytime i turn on my nuvi a screen pops up stating something like "PROGRAMS FOUND ON MEMORY CARD. DO YOU WANT TO INSTALL ON DEVICE TO USE INCASE MEMORY CARD IS REMOVED..Y/N?"

WHAT'S THE USE OF THE SCREEN SHOT??

Hello: Just want to know confused what is the use of the "screen shot" any way???, personally I can not find any real use of it; or maybe I'm missing something that I don't know???

Please tell me how do you use it!!!

Thanks: FRGG

Searching custom POI entries on GPS

I've searched and looked for an answer, most likely there is a terminology gap.

When I add a custom POI the points are not available using the POI 'search' function. Is this only for the built in POI's or will it work with GPX type files?

Phonebook issue with Verizon LG VX8550 and 265T

Trying to help out a coworker who got a 265T for Christmas. He is having a Bluetooth issue that is strange at best.

A call to Garmin resulted in the response that it is most likely an issue with Verizon, and it is true that they are notorious for locking down features on phones.

so here is what he is experiencing

Icons for Garmin's built-in points of interest files

Ok, please understand this ... I'm not asking the age-old question about how come the icons don't show up on my screen.

And I'm not asking how I add custom icons to my personal POI's uploaded by me.

I'm asking about the icons for the original Points of Interest files installed by Garmin on my new 260W.

Linebreaks, Nüvi Line

Here is the latest list of linebreak requirements for the nüvi line:

Model--Type of Linebreak Required--Source of Input
nuvi 200--Standard--(email)
nuvi 250--<br>--/node/19649
nuvi 255--<br>--/node/17422
nuvi 265W--<br>--/node/1486
nuvi 265WT--Standard--/node/19757
nuvi 350--<br> (Personal experience)
nuvi 360--<br> (member input)
nuvi 650--Standard--/node/19649
nuvi 660--Standard--/node/19757
nuvi 680--Standard--/node/19649
nuvi 6xx--Appears most/all require Standard--/node/19649

If your nüvi model is not on the list, and you would like to test yours:
1. Download a POI that contains <br> linebreaks. One such POI is at:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/19698 (Dated 1/5/2009)
2. Load the POI to your GPS.
3. Check the displayed data from the 'Comment' field, then post the results here or send me the info via my contact link:
(a) Does your unit display <br>? If so, your unit accepts standard linebreaks.
(b) Does your unit display a linebreak and does not display <br>? Then your unit requires the <br> linebreaks.

All help would be appreciated. I will update this list periodically.

Thanks all.

Nuvi 760 v. Tom Tom GO 930

Well, this past weekend, I had a chance to try out the Nuvi 760 and the Tom Tom GO 930. For ordinary driving, the 760's map screen only showed the car's speed and the direction of travel (i.e. a compass). When driving to a destination, the 760's map screen showed the time of arrival and the distance to the next turn. The next turn street and direction are shown at the very top.

Nuvi Editor

I was struggling yesterday to find SlowJim's Nuvi Editor program. For those of you who may want it here is a direct link to the download:

Yet another POI question

Just looked at FAQ and don't see this. Say I want to create 3 categories of POI on my 750. Will simplfy the names for this question, the three files (categories) are:
rest_stops.csv
sports_stores.csv
motels.csv

My question is can I have a separate icon for each, so would my file list be
rest_stops.csv
rest_stops.bmp
sports_stores.csv
sports_stores.bmp
motels.csv
motels.bmp

Zipcode search

I am a new user and someone told me you can search by zipcode rather than the town. My first trip with my Nuvi 350 was between two towns and I didn't know which one to enter. I had the road address but not the town. Does anyone know if this can be done? I can't seem to find any info on it.

Speed camera alerts

I just download the redlight and speed camera CSV files. I know how the redlight alert works because of the reserved word redlight, so I was wondering if the speed camera file works the same, is speed a reserved word or do I have to use a different reserved word like tourguide/specs or set a distance manually.

How does a location make it into the "Core POI" list?

I was messing around today with my nuvu 750 and decided to type in "chiropractic" as the destination I wanted to go to (under POI's, type address...)

One business came up, which made me question how one would get their business into the "core map" POIs?

A Question about returns in Excel .csv files

I have attempted to answer this question myself for a long time and have been unsuccessful so now I'm going to ask about it.

Forward looking POIs

Is there a way to get my Garmin 850 to ignore the POIs I have passed and only show the ones that are ahead of me. It is very frustrating to have to scroll thru' dozens of POIs that are in the rear view mirror when traveling on the interstates. I am only interested in those that I will come to not those I have left behind.

is my Garmin C320 useless for things other than navigation?

Hi All, I have owned a C320 for a few months, and getting to learn more about it.

It's great for navigation, but I want to load some POI files on it to make it even more useful.

I was extremely disappointed to find out that when I tried to load the zip code file the POI loader told me the C320 has not enough memory.

I did a search and it seems I can't load the POI files to the SD card?

Alerts from POI files

When I have my alerts turned on it repeats it self several times. When I have it set to 5000 feet it will alert at 5000 feet and usually 2 more times before I pass the point. Does anyone know if I can make it only alert once.
