Garmin talk

OK, just bought this as my screen got broken on my 355w. I wish I could get all my favorites off the old unit as it still works but screen gone. I was trying to enter a address of a drive-in & it's on a county road #10. How do I get this to take on this unit. I did try "CR-10" CR10 & a couple of other ways but not taking.

It is my understanding that a 1490 is a 1450 with Bluetooth.
Though my 1490 came with a traffic receiver, it isn't labeled a 1490T.
Since they all use the same software, is there really a difference? Does a 1490 become a 1490T when I plug in the receiver?
Can a 1490 be more buggy than a 1450 (they use the same software).
My 1450 didn't come with traffic. I added a GTM-25.

How do I associate the museum icon with museums? Can ya tell I've never added anything to my gps. Garmin 1450lmt.

I believe I can just use an usb cable and hook it up to my computer, but do I have to have the files in folders ahead of time? or what.

Been in Batam, Indonesia for the past couple of weeks. I took my 1390T with me and had downloaded a mapset of Batam from some website I found. However, try as I might, I could not get a satellite signal, so I don't know how good the map is. My Verizon cellphone worked fine, but the Garmin couldn't pick up the first satellite.

I ordered 2 more Chirps.

I'm going on a trip with my son to the Pike's Peak Hill Climb this weekend and will get to talk to him about possibilities. He is a data systems guy for an oil field safety firm and has lots of experience with impractical GPS usage. We might test them there.

Just had a couple questions. Coming from a few Tomtom models (One 3rd, and a 340)

* Is there any way to get it to prompt me whether I want to take a toll road or not, instead of navigating through 6 menus just to modify this?

I have recently installed a Kenwood KVT-516 head unit and Kenwood KNA-G610 hideaway Garmin module in my wife's vehicle to replace a window mounted Nuvi.

I was under the assumption that I would be able to add all her POI and vehicle (from Garmin Garage) files, that she had on her Nuvi, onto the G610 unit. However, I just got off the phone with Garmin's dealer tech support (since it's technically a Kenwood unit) and the gentlemen told me I would not be able to use anything other than what was preloaded on the device. Obviously my wife will be disappointed.

Okay... so I looked, searched, and browsed, but couldn't find if this had been asked-and-answered yet.

Please direct me if there's another thread on the topic.

How does one cause points of interest (from the default files) to appear on the map as you drive, (whether it's a route or just a scrolling map.) Is there a simple command in the Tools I've overlooked?

ok, I am confused... I want rest areas on the map... all the time. Not a list somewhere.. Is this possible? I downloaded the rest stop poi's and they are in my garmin but what is the way to get this icon thing working?

I left an active Chirp within sight of the 101 freeway in Mountain View, California last week. Near a likely spot for techies to visit. A properly Garmin equiped visitor could exchange the Chirp's short text message from his slow moving car, SAFELY!

Hello all:

I am planning a trip From Toronto Ontario to Sydney Nova Scotia this summer. I was wondering if there is any way to easily locate Gas Stations or Service centers at approximately 200Km intervals along a route. I use Mapsource for speed zones and Alerts but cannot see an easy way to do this besides using the measuring tool (which is linear not route specific).

Several of the POI files that I want seem to offer the "Garmin" .csv and Tom Tom .ov2 formats as options. I have a Garmin 60cx, and am using a Mac with Garmin RoadTrip and POI Loader software. I also have GPSBabel+.

OK, I give, what are "enforcement camera"(s)and will I get them when d/ling Red Light Cameras 2011-06-15 and Speed Cameras 2011-06-15? I hope they aren't Redlight and speed cameras, that would be crazy to put them in the download list without any explanation.

Anyhow where do I see them in settings etc?

has anyone been able to successfully pair iPhone 4 with a Nuvi 760 via bluetooth? When I had a LG LX370, there was no problem at all. I connected the 760 to webupdate to see if there is any bluetooth driver update, but as I expected, there was none.

I have the Nuvi 760 and looking to upgrade to a newer Nuvi. Some of the newer Nuvi's you need to plug the power cable in after you slip the gps into the cradle. The cradle does not power the gps. What current Nuvi's use the powered cradle mount like the older 760?

It doesn't seem that clear which models have this feature on Garmin's web site.

My father has a nuvi 1370. I made a backup of Current.gpx and then I made a master reset. As expected, all Favorites are gone, but I still have the original Current.gpx.

I tried to copy the old currnet.gpx to Temp.gpx in the GPX folder. I tried any other name.gpx. I tried to overwrite Current.gpx. All those tests and I cannot merge the old Favorites with the default ones.

I wonder where Garmin gets the data for the traffic updates. How are they able to get real time data for all North American cities and broadcast it to our GPS units so quickly?
