poi on the map please

ok, I am confused... I want rest areas on the map... all the time. Not a list somewhere.. Is this possible? I downloaded the rest stop poi's and they are in my garmin but what is the way to get this icon thing working?

.

Add the rest stop .bmp with the exact same name as the POI, but with the .bmp extension. Then, load it in the same file as the POI.

Zoom to 50 meters, and it is there.

Make them alerts

I set mine up in POILoader in manual mode with a 2 mile alert distance. They always show when they are on the road you are traveling. It may not be all of the time but it is at least when you are traveling by them.

There is no way to make custom POI icons always show at all zoom levels. Generally mine all show in 2D, track up mode, at the 200 feet zoom level which isn't suitable while driving.

You have to include the bmp file in the same directory as Juggernaut said in the previous post.

poi icons

Thanks for the input. Do I have to load an icon seperately? How? They do not have any way to do this that I can find like the poi loaded to my puter..
Tks..

The POI and the icon should be in the same folder, with the same name and loaded at the same time. For example:

rest_area.csv
rest_area.bmp

icons

Go to the top of this page and click on icons, scroll down to the rest stop icons and select the one you want. Download it to the same folder you download the rest stop. csv file to.

When they are together, rename the icon so its name is exactly the same as the rest sop .csv but with the bmp extension. Then you can run POILoader on them. POILoader will find the bmp and put it in your POI file. I suggest running POILoader in manual mode with a 2 mile alert distance.

The getting started section will help guide you thru these steps also. Or use the search box above.

Updating BMP's

DO you have to add the BMP everytime you add an updated POI?

BMP remains in the folder

The bmp file stays in the folder where the csv or gpx raw file resides. To add a POI you edit the raw file and save it.

You then run POI Loader on the raw file again to send it to the GPS or SD card. POILoader will find the file by it self when it is in the same folder and named the same as the raw file.
