Nuvi powered mounts

I have the Nuvi 760 and looking to upgrade to a newer Nuvi. Some of the newer Nuvi's you need to plug the power cable in after you slip the gps into the cradle. The cradle does not power the gps. What current Nuvi's use the powered cradle mount like the older 760?

It doesn't seem that clear which models have this feature on Garmin's web site.

Steve

The 3790

The 3790 (probably the whole 37xx line) has a powered mount and the manual for the 22xx series would indicate that the 22xx, 23xx and 24xx do also.

2450

Just got a 2450 and the it does.

The plug on the gps is a micro usb and the plug on the cradle is a mini usb like the 750.

I have a charger with the mini so I plug the cradle to the phone and use the mini usb to charge in the house. Didn't have to buy a new house charger.

Thanks. This will give me something to go on.

my 255w is not powered

my 255w is not powered through a cradle but my 755t is. I prefer to not power through the cradle. It is another connection that could go bad and do not seem as sturdy and as my direct connection.
others may disagree.

My 3760 LMT has a powered mount; My 255 LMT doesn't

I would be one of those who hold a different opinion.

I did not buy the 3760 because of the powered mount but I fell in love the first time I used it.

It is hard to explain why - if you like it, you tend to love it; if you don't like it, a powered mount is no big deal. No way to find out that I know of except to try it.

I Prefer The Powered Mount

It's easy to drop the GPS into the mount and take it out with my 760. The plug on the 255W is a bit less convenient. Both get the job done.

Curious

Just curious why you are leaving the Nuvi 760? I have the same model and haven't personally seen anything I'd like to upgrade to.

would like it better if...

Agreed. I think I would like it better if the plug didn't stick out on my unit at a 90 degree angle.

.

I like the powered mount units myself. In fact, I don't think I'd buy a unit without it.

I agree

The powered mount is the only way I would go.

Love the Powered Mount

Easy to pop off and back on when parking in public areas. Wouldn't leave home without one! See below for Nuvi comparisons (including models with powered mounts)

Just gotta ask............ WHY would anybody want to swap out a nüvi 760? I love the 760. When I needed to replace mine I replaced it with the same thing. I could have purchased any GPS I wanted but I got another 760. I haven't seen any reason at all to "upgrade" to a newer model.

I have a Nuvi 350 & a 1350.

I have a Nuvi 350 & a 1350. The 350 has a powered mount, the 1350 does not. I like the 350 mount better because if I've left it on my windshield in my garage & don't have to do a thing except insert the 350, start the car & I'm on my way. My cigarette lighter turns off with the ignition.

Fred

My vote ......

... the power mount.

Power Mount

I agree, the power mount is very convenient for popping your GPS out without the hassle of messing with the power cord. I have the Garmin 2460LMT, which uses a power mount.

Nuvi powered mounts

Power mount is a whole lot better.

I thought that also, but when needing a map it wasn't much more to to buy a new one. I thought I would use the new one as a back up but it is so much nicer...larger screen...gas miles per gallon...100 routes instead of 10...4g instead of 2g...eco......others but can't think of them now...does not have an mp3 player but can buy a small one for the car for little or nothing.

Do so love the Nuvi 2450LM....

No audio out is a deal breaker for me. I use the 760 through the stereo in the car. I also listen to audio books (mostly from audible.com but also in mp3 format) and that function isn't available in the new units. I could get an iPod or other device for the audio books but I REALLY want to be able to get the GPS directions through the car stereo as well and I just don't see any kind of audio out on the new units.

In my old work car I can use the FM transmitter (I live and work in northern California so I can generally find a station that works for the FM transmitter) and in the new car I just run a cable from the headphone jack on the 760 to an audio input port in the car. These options don't seem to exist on the new units so I'll stick with the 760. It works great and always gets me where I need to go.

Powered Mount Cord Angle

Like my powered mount for my 3760 - don't like the 90 degree angle though, particularly when using with a bean bag base (with rental cars).

Query

Is anyone aware of a comparison chart to evaluate this issue for different Garmin models?

1 vote for power mount

I also like, the power mount, basically for the single hand operation to remove it from the cradle. Although I rarely use it, removing from the power mount also sets your current position so if you are looking for your car after the game, it will point you to it in the stadium's parking lot.

This seems like a good feature, but can it be used to find more than one car?

For example, let's say I park at the airport, then remove my gps, saving my car's location. What happens when i remount the gps at my destination? Would I lose the location of my car, or would there be a way to save it?

I'm guessing that one should manually save this location to their favorites before removing the system when parking.

The location feature that marks your current location when you pop the nuvi out of the cradle is per removal, that is it only finds it way back to the location where it was disconnected. As you mentioned, the thing you want is to mark a favorite. You can do this as many times as you would like up to 500 or 1000 depending on model. And you can delete unneeded favorites if you want.

As you suspected, the auto saved location gets flushed when reconnected.

The 760 is giving me problems with the touch screen being off. I have to recalibrate it every time I turn it on. Also I like to get life time maps and traffic.
