OK, I give, what are "enforcement camera"(s)and will I get them when d/ling Red Light Cameras 2011-06-15 and Speed Cameras 2011-06-15? I hope they aren't Redlight and speed cameras, that would be crazy to put them in the download list without any explanation.

Anyhow where do I see them in settings etc?

Thanks

Btw, I'm a courier with 10 drivers and would like to be able to submit wrong and new ones. We have a lot of not working ones around here just to scare people into accidents. It seems that locals know they aren't working, but others do not...causing crashes especially in the rain. The cameras that are from Garmin (Cyclops) really old and haven't been updated in years.

your wish came true

They are red light and speed cameras, aren't the labels appropriate? What else should they be named?

This topic has been discussed many times, they aren't there to scare people. They are there to modify behavior, i.e. get people to stop running red lights. If we look back to airbags and ABS brakes, there was resistance and still is to those technologies as well. Simply look at the people who continue to drive with hands on the wheel at 10 and 2 o'clock--this was discouraged circa 1992, and here it is 2011.

Just another name for RLC's

Just another name for RLC's and Speed cameras. And as stated they are for safety (to modify behavior), and as it has been seen to generate revenue.

I see that, or didn't you

I see that, or didn't you read that I was asking about "enforcement camera"(s)and how or what qualifies me to get them. Some documentation is needed here.

Again, I'm not talking about what RLCs are, as you could of read that I use Garmins.

Not that your post is of any help, but thanks for the forum lecture.

Wow.

tailgating camera

now, we may need to add tailgating camera in this.

They are the same

On this board, 'Enforcement camera' is just an all-encompassing term for 'Red Light camera' and 'Speed Camera'.

When you click on the link to report an Enforcement camera, it then asks you which one it is (camera type (red light, speed, or both)).

So when you download the RLC's and SC's, you are downloading the EC's.

Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE)

Wikipedia makes the comment about Traffic Enforcement
"It may include a camera which may be mounted beside on over a highway or installed in an enforcement vehicle to detect traffic regulation violations, including speeding, vehicles going through a red traffic light, unauthorized use of a bus lane, for recording vehicles inside a congestion charge area and others."

We often tend to forget the other tickets that may be issued by cameras. Perhaps the most common "other" ticket (and the one that can certainly be abused by a municipality) is the turn-right-on-red violation.

There is another thread on this forum dealing with a "tailgating" camera. Personally, I would like to see something like this because I get very nervous when another driver get very close behind me - particularly on the freeway. Usually it is someone on a cell phone whose attention is distracted such that they are not fully aware of how close they are to me. I just try to move out of their way.

If there are cameras watching "bus lanes", for example, I am not aware of them. Let's assume that they exist. Would we create a separate POI category for them? Or, would we group them with speed cameras?

They do nothing but create revenue!

Be honest, RLC'a and SC's only create revenue and create a choke point for traffic. A LEO can modify behavior by changeing enforcement locations and informing the violaters of what they did wrong. A LEO can also listen to the reason/cause of the action and make a decision as to what to do.

A EC only gets people that dont notice them, many times the person does not even notice. How can something modify behavior if you are not aware of your possible mistake weeks or months later. And please don't tell me they are never wrong and no jurisdiction has ever cheated on setting them up.

I for one slow to 20+ mph below posted whenever approaching a RLC or SC so I have time to take action to avoid ticket or getting rearended. In case you have not noticed the modified behavior, people slow down approaching and speed up 10 -20 mph above posted after getting through the trap.

Behavior

In my location, Automated Traffic Enforcement cameras are "advertised" by signage located far enough in advance of the camera for people to take appropriate action.

When people get tickets based on a camera, one would hope that they are smart enough not to get another ticket at that particular location. If so, they have modified their behavior.

When people are aware that certain locations are "speed traps", they usually modify their driving habits in that area.

All is well, I didn't need

All is well, I didn't need to know anything one just poped up a known intersections today. I do wish they would be larger or color coded so that you don't have to look at whats up!

Part of my confusion may be my memory, Didn't this site charge for them?

Btw, my argument with RLCs is if it's not revenue, why isn't the government required to publish, or make available, the data? They gather the data and we pay with that taxes so it should be available just like court records.

I would have a problem if one of my loved ones got killed and the Police withheld the gathered site information. If they know speed kills and do nothing for the taxpayers that may be a crime.

It starts off as a pay for item

As you spend time here (5 weeks I believe) you become an active member, and the file is then free to you.

neither

In most cases, I do not like LEO, either. to many times I heard people arguing with LEO on citations that "I am just following the traffic", "I set cruise control at speed limit".... they do not like LEO, either.

Shortened yellow

In the Des Moines Iowa area I have noticed several yellow light times shortened when the cameras were installed. One is on the off ramp of the interstate and I have seen people lock up their brakes to avoid a ticket because the yellow time was shortened too much.
