Displaying Default POI Icons

Okay... so I looked, searched, and browsed, but couldn't find if this had been asked-and-answered yet.

Please direct me if there's another thread on the topic.

How does one cause points of interest (from the default files) to appear on the map as you drive, (whether it's a route or just a scrolling map.) Is there a simple command in the Tools I've overlooked?

I understand I can do a search and get a list of the nearest 50 occurances of whatever search criteria I set... and that it gives a line-of-sight distance and direction, but is there a way for that information to "display" on the map?

I know I can create a file of my own (or download one from our stock here) and assign a like-named.bmp file and that those will appear on the map... but I have no interest in recreating files that are already part of the mapset... especially for unexpected needs that may arise while traveling.

Or did no one at Garmin think this a necessity?

Thanx in advance,
-Oz (who has been away using his GPS on his extended travels)

Map Zoom only

The only way I know of is to zoom the map in to 200ft or closer after you have put it in view mode (touching it outside of your position while navigating).

Also, on my 295W even then it only shows me little black poi squares and I have to touch them so the name appears in a 'bubble'. Seems to me that my 765T would show the icons at 200ft or closer, so it may depend on the model and firmware release.

[edit-] I stand corrected- my 295W will show icons (for those that have them) at 200ft, but will NOT show them if I'm in the navigation map, only after I've touched and entered the 'browse' map display.

I think there are two reasons for this behavior- WAY too many poi's to show that would clutter the map, and the desire to make it difficult to 'steal' the built-in pois.

If you have your map set loaded on your PC then you can see them in MapSource by setting the detail level to High and get icon display at 0.3 miles, or Highest and get display at 0.5 mi.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

The internal pois have icons

The internal pois have icons like you see on Google Earth.Spoon and fork for food is a example. You have to zoom in to see them like you do for the custom pois. They will also appear once you get close to the end destination. Before you select go you can touch map at bottom to see the icon.

Many postes have stated the Tom Tom does a much better job displaying icons on the scren then Garmin.
