Garmin talk

I have a garmin 340..I have loaded sum poi's for Tim Hortons and also a TH Icon..I used the new Beta loader and included the Alerts when I approached TH..Set it at 1000 feet..That works great but upon arrival i do not see my TH Icon?? I made it 30x30..Any ideas on why I cannot see the icon?Thankx

I just bought the Garmin NUVI 660. I intend to buy an SD card. I have been looking at various SD cards and they come in a variety of sizes, speeds, and prices. Does anybody know what speed I should be looking to get? It does not make sense to me to pay the extra money for addition transfer speed that will not be utilized by the 660. If the technical answer is not available can someone give me a recommendation based on their experience.

I have a new Garmin 2720 and I am getting an error reporting "garmin gps has returned an error status while receivng data packets" when uploading POI's through the poiloader and then the gps unit reboots . I am also get the same error while using the webupdater trying to laod newer voice tts file. I upgraded to the newest software v6.40 before I ever used the unit and can't tell if it is this version of software.

anyone run across this one? My new c550 just seemed to have the music note (icon for the mp3 player) disappear.... I just used it 3 hrs ago fine.... I tried to reinstall the software from webupdater. I am reluctant to reset the software - when I had the c530, THAT caused my maps to lock out with no repair....

Have done nothing but add a few small csv's since I ran the mp3 player....

Any ideas?! Help!

Spoke with Garmin - they are now including the CD in the box. They are also sending a CD to those who ask and did not receive one for free.

Someone was talking earlier about the lat/long position provided by various units that they owned, and, how they were rather different.

I compared my Magellan Meridium Gold to my Garmin 2720.

Has anybody else had an issue with getting any GARMIN rebates ??

She got a letter from GARMIN's rebate department, stateing that her 330 wasn't covered during Oct.
She went to "PEP BOYS" where she bought it, and showed them (Thanks to my wife always keeping ALL paperwork), the Store flyer, GARMIN's rebate paperwork, and reciept.
GARMIN still refused to honor the rebate ($50,00)

Does this model not have a preset POI for shopping? I remember the c330 having a category for shopping.

Hi all - I have a c550, just turned in a c530 - but I was wondering, has anyone seen a 300 series streetpilot beside a 500 series for screen comparison? Is it that much of a difference?

My wife wanted a Garmin, did not want me to spend the $$ for a c550, maybe not even a c530... but I know she will want a screen she can easily see...

Any feedback appreciated!

I have a Garmin C550 and plan to buy a cell phone. I want to use the bluetooth connection between the phone and GPS. I was told by the cell phone sales person at Verizon (in Indiana) that all the phones they sell with their plans have the ability to connect to a GPS blocked. In other words even if the phone has bluetooth it won't work with my GPS. I guess they want people to use Verizon phones with GPS built in to them instead of using another GPS device.

I have had my C530 for about 1 month with no problems. Today, I turned it off and then on again and got a message that the firmware updated with a confirm button. After that the unit could not find any satelites. Location map was from where I turned it off (on? same location). Tried restarting several times and it skipped the normal startup screen and went directly to the security code. After entering security code, had same problem....i.e. same map and searching for satelites.

I bought my first GPS yesterday (at Best Buy) and what a blast. It is the Nuvi 350. My question is, can I assume that all the maps are current? When does one need to update? I live in Maryland.

Has anyone used the POI Loader BETA (version 2.4.0.0)?

If so, what were the results?

I took JM's advice, and bought a GPSMap 76CX, to use during hiking and kayaking. It's a powerful little gadget, and much harder to learn how to use than the Nuvi I have for street navigation. I just got it a few days ago, and haven't had a chance to use it in forests or on the water yet.

But, I'm wondering if anyone in this group has experience with Garmin's country-wide topos, which have a 1:100K scale. The reviews of it on Amazon are mixed. I'm not a heavy duty hiker, but would like to do some day hikes in various state and national forests and parks, and have an easier time following trails, etc.

I'm interested in learning more about embedding mp3 files and/or photo files into custom POIs for the Nuvi and Zumo. Anyone have info as to how this is accomplished?

Would adding an External antenna help my
reception a great deal. I have experienced signal
loss a few times but it's not common. This normally
happens when I'm in a big city with lots of tall
buildings. Since my C340 doesn't have a high gain
SiRF chip Antenna like the c500's and Nuvi's, would
adding an External antenna solve my problem?

I travel to a half-dozen various cities anually and typically stay for around 30 days each. Finding good local restaurants is always a challenge. By "Finding
good" I'm not just refering the the navigation piece. I'm referring to getting a good idea of which restaurants to choose.

Looking for Zumo 550 users to exchange ideas and information.

Conversely, in the c530, I understand it SHOULD read POIs from either internal or the SD card...

well my new c530 dutifully reads either and even asks on turn-on if you want the SD POIs to be moved to the internal memory, BUT, it seems to only allow TWO POI subcategories.... and sometimes allows only ONE, IE, when I upload astronomy csv then VOR then air-fields, only the last two categories show up in the selection list under Extras/custom POIs...
