C330 Intermittant Loss of Signal

Yesterday I took my Garmin on about a 40 mile romp through residential and freeway running. At no point did I encounter any tall bldgs, thick trees or anything else that could obstruct the satellites' signals.

When I first fired it up, it took a very long time "acquiring signals" - to the point that it asked me if I was indoors (which I wasn't). It then asked me for my location and then asked me to verify the time/date. Another 5 minutes or so passed and it finally said "ready to navigate". I started on my trip. During the trip, it lost satellite signal 5 or 6 times. It would "recalculate" (it said) then be o.k. for a few miles the off again.

Garmin trouble?????? I hope this is not "normal".

sun spots????

Mounting location?

I have that problem when I have my Garmin sitting on the center console, but not when mounted on the windshield. Could the roof of your car be causing the blocking of the reception? I am thinking of getting an external antenna for mine to see if that helps.

I plan to live forever. So far, so good.

My C330 has been mounted on

My C330 has been mounted on the windshield and I have experienced no signal loss problems. Is the unit blocked by a solar shade of antenna? Good luck.

Garmin 330

I use my 330 in three different vehicles one is a pickup if I mount it too high in it the signal will be lost at times.Try mounting it forward more in the winshield.Good luck .

Wierd stuff, I guess!

I have the unit mounted on the lower part of the windshield in an almost all "plastic" car (including the roof panel) (I also have no location to mount a magnetic Sirius antenna!) - see my avatar.

Today I took it on the road again for about 30 miles through residential and highway thoroughfares - IT NEVER LOST SIGNAL!!!!!

So, end of post, I guess. Thanks for all the suggestions

Intermittant Loss of Signal

Do you have a windshield radio antenna for the car? This has caused problems especially in Chevy Venture Vans where there is no external radio antenna, but the antenna is "built" into the windshield. These types of antennas also affect easy pass transponders. Also make sure the gps is on the opposite side of the vehicle (left or right) from the car radio antenna.
If the radio antenna is windshield mounted, then and external gps antenna is advisable.
