Garmin talk

I remember a discussion here a couple of months ago in which someone claimed that his GPS was automatically updated while he was driving---no computer, no Webupdater involved. The conclusion of the discussion I think was that it was not possible since the satellites are owned by the Defense Department, not Garmin.

Ok so I'm new and have a few basic questions.

I purchased a Garmin 660 with City Navigator NT v.8 preloaded around April 7th. It did not come with a disc other than the manual. I have looked at the files inside the 660 and see no .map files, etc. I have downloaded the latest MapSource and installed.
1. Wheres the map files?

Has anyone experienced inaccurate values on the trip information screen?

Is anyone interested in putting together a POI list for Bus Layovers in NYC? This may be helpful for drivers that go there frequently.

I've noticed that some casinos are on the preloaded software on the 650 and others are not. Why is this?

Hello- A few questions, before I delete "important" files. Can I delete all POI.GPI files? I think the .GPI files are ones that I download. Is this true? Also, can you rename a .GPI file to "Match" your Points of interest. FOr example, National Parks download as POI.GPI, can I rename it to Nationalparks.GPI?

I loaded my first new POI's on my Garmin 200W. I used the POI update software. How do I find my new POIs?? Thanks

I have a Garmin IQue 3600. Unfortunately it does not support the new Garmin POI Loader.

How can I import POIs into this model?

Right now I make a new waypoint on the IQue and then manually insert latitude/longitude.

Obviously I'd like to find a better way to get POIs into the IQue.

I accidentally deleted the gmapprom.img file from my nuvi 350!

I was trying to upload 2008 maps and to free up memory that was required (had only like 700mb left and needed like 950mb) I thought deleting the biggest file on the GPS would work. Well I had enough room now but the GPS doesn't work. Now it is nothing but an overpriced mp3 player!

I don't have any red light camera/speed POIs installed, yet my NUVI 5000 will sometimes display "variable safety camera " alerts. Sometime it will also lock up. Anyone else with these types of problems?

This unit has been replaced once by Garmin.

A friend of mine purchased a Nuvi 200, and I am not familiar with it, since I have a C340. There is nothing in the manual about a USB cable to plug into a PC so you can load POI files and charge the unit, but it does have the ability to do that, doesn't it? Will it also function as a mass storage unit?

I am trying to add to the Best Burgers list. When I find the Resturant on Google Map and open up the send to my GPS window. The name, address, Tel. # and what I belive are the coordinates are shown. It sends me the wrong place when I enter the coordinates in my GPS and look at it. The Burger place is Le Tub, 1100 N.Ocean Dr. Hollywood Fl. The coordinates that are shown are 26.03796, 80.14011.

So, do the readers here think that other online mapping websites will follow Google Maps and Mapquests lead and also allow the "Send To GPS" option, or do you think that this will remain exclusive to Google Maps and Mapquest? I guess for that matter, what other websites would be likely to do this?

Just got the Nuvi 750 and love it. However, the volume on the alerts is too high. The normal level is fine for navigation, but when the alerts for the custom POIs cuts in, WOW. I mean to the point of vibrating the speaker.

Hello- Recently I purchased a NUVI650 and I just started adding POI's. Does anyone know if you can change the header/title "Custom POIs" that appear. I would like to creat a title that states what the POIs are ie: Trails, lakes, etc...

Went on to mapquest, went to directions, put in house address, put in campground in South Dakota. Modified route, clicked send to, chose GPS. Worked fine. I did have to download the garmin communicator even though I had done so before and it worked with google.
