Wrong coordinates

I am trying to add to the Best Burgers list. When I find the Resturant on Google Map and open up the send to my GPS window. The name, address, Tel. # and what I belive are the coordinates are shown. It sends me the wrong place when I enter the coordinates in my GPS and look at it. The Burger place is Le Tub, 1100 N.Ocean Dr. Hollywood Fl. The coordinates that are shown are 26.03796, 80.14011. I am sorry that this is so long but I realy want to add to the many POI sites and maybe be able to help someone. Thanks

Paul, the critical bit

Paul, the critical bit you're missing is the minus sign. It should read:

26.03796, -80.14011

--
(2) Nuvi 1450LMT + 3597LMTHD + 2557LMT + DS61LMT-S Boston MA

coordinates

I just put the address in Google maps and it shows
-80.1172,26.0183

I got mine from Google

I got mine from Google maps.Setting the pin with the marker.Did you use the same method?

Just to show some differences I went to map tools and this is what came back using the address.

from google latitude longitude
decimal 26.018294 -80.117201
deg-min-sec 26° 1' 5.8584" -80° 7' 1.9236"

from geocoder latitude longitude
decimal 26.018267 -80.117266
deg-min-sec 26° 1' 5.7612" -80° 7' 2.1576"
1100 N Ocean Dr , Hollywood FL 33019

from yahoo latitude longitude
decimal 26.018267 -80.117266
deg-min-sec 26° 1' 5.7612" -80° 7' 2.1576"

I did. Perhaps we're

I did. Perhaps we're splitting hairs. I'm not really sure if these discrepancies represent anything in the real world.

Wrong Coordinates

I was using the 3rd and 4th line after the phone #. When I used the ones that were given to me,26.0183 & 80.1172 it mark it right were it is. I live there and know its location. I did find the above coordinates near the last couple of lines. What are the first ones for? Also the minus button is not active on the imput screen. Is their a better look up tool, if you know the address other than Google Map. Thanks,Paul

I use Google maps and GPS

I use Google maps and GPS Visualizer http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoding.html a lot.Google Earth is good and lots of members use it.This is email I got back from Garmin on what they use.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I'm happy to help you with this. I would use the google map as we get our mapping from the same company. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

I wonder if Nathan knows that Google get their mapping from a variety of sources?

If you call up a "Google Map" of anywhere in the UK, it's highly likely to say "Copyright Tele Atlas" in the bottom right-hand corner...I didn't think Garmin used Tele Atlas wink

(Actually, I've believe there's a way of telling Google Maps to use specific mapsets - but I've not figured it out yet...)

What the Garmin Mapsource Program says

For what its worth, I looked it up on Mapsource and the program had the Le Tub in it's database. It gave the coordinates as:

26.01097 -80.07034

Larry - Nuvi 680, Nuvi 1690, Nuvi 2797LMT

Thanks for the lesson.

I tried gpsviualizer and I like it. I crossed reference with google map and did find the same on the last two lines. The only differance would be the 3th & 4th numbers (42.45127 vs 42.4569) after the decimal point. I also noticed that you can do multiple address, is that what you use to make a POI list? My goal is to create a POI list of all the Buffalo Wing locations around New England.
Thanks again, Paul

Yes you can use the batch

Yes you can use the batch for a series of address's.It works very well just make sure you get hit as a address not a zip code location. I also use Google maps a lot too.If you establish a account that is free and work with my maps it can cut a lot of time out making a poi file.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/9542
