Includes 1661 locations in the following areas:

  • United States: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, HI, ID, MT, NC, NM, NV, OR, SD, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WY
  • some may be in: MA, MD, MEX, NY, PA, VT (near a border)

This Poi file contains 1661 Hot Springs in the United States. It is adapted from the "Thermal Springs List for the United States" located on NOAA's National Geophysical Data Center's website at:

http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/nndc/struts/results?t=100006&s=1&d=...

The data displayed on information page is the "Popular" name or the name used by the USGS. Some springs do not have popular or USGS names. These are called "Null".

Usually, following the name you will see a number. This number is the maximum surface temperature of the water in degrees Fahrenheit. There are also springs that do not have a specific recorded maximum temperature, so you may instead see the letter "B", "H" or "W". These letters stand for "Boiling", "Hot" and "Warm".

While many of these are easily accessible by car, there are no guarantees that a listed hot spring will be accessible to the public at large and some will undoubtedly be on private lands. NEVER trespass! Always obtain permission from the owner before entering their property!

Many hot springs are fragile and ecologically sensitive. Some can provide perfect living conditions for infectious bacteria. DO NOT enter any spring unless you know that this is permitted and it is safe to do so!

Created with POIEdit, this file works on my Nuvi 260

Note from Miss POI: When looking at the data it looks like the coordinates only have 3 decimal places or less, so they may be off a little bit from the actual locations.
