theres shouldnt be one if

theres shouldnt be one if you bought it after the map update came out

It has been mentioned a number of time in the 700 post on this subject. But if you bought ie in march or later and have registered it they from what garmin says you should get the up date free.

READY UPDATED 2009. UNINSTALL 2008?

Hi, thanks, I ready updated my Nuvi and my computer map to 2009, I dont have much space at my computer hard disc, can I uninstall 2008 North America map, and my map source continue open 2009 map update, thanks.

.

No, don't uninstall your 2008 maps. The 2009 maps will overwrite them. If you need to free up a little bit more space on your nuvi, you can delete an unneeded voice, vehicle, and text files from the unit. It's advisable to back up the entire unit to your computer before deleting any files. Do NOT do anything to the .IMG files as these are your maps.

SAFELY REMOVE FAIL

Hi, Thanks, how can I delete text files and unneeded voice from my unit. Now when I try safely remove Nuvi from my computer I cant, say windows is in use, How can I fix this for SAFELY REMOVE my Nuvi from my computer, Thankssssssssssss

Voice files are in the Garmin folder under VOICE. I'm not sure about text files.

I've had that same message. Reboot your computer and that should solve it, although it may occur again.

Not all, at least, not yet. Follow the link below for specific details and limitations on Costco's return policy.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time before GPS units are added to the Exceptions list.

updates

Yeah, I got mine free for the nuvi 260 I bought in March. Although for being 2009 maps, it still is way behind as our airport has grown and changed all the roads out there at least 3 years ago, and it still shows the old roads that aren't there anymore. I started with 2008 maps in my
Garmin. My Harman Kardon gps 310 with it's 2007 maps from teleatlas show the new roads. Navigon better get it up to par cause I'd sure have hated to pay for those updates.

Should I update

I just swapped out my nuvi 200 for a 200W. Thanks to Best Buy price match I only had to pay $10 dollars more. Should I update the maps now? I understand you get one free update from Garmin web site. When will a new update come out?

Next update won't be until 1st qtr of next year. You'd want to register now, so that you can stay current on their firmware updates.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I will do that today. Also do you know if I can get my POI's to show up on the map when I am using my nuvi? I downloaded some things and they did not show up as I was driving by them today. I thought they would be on the map.
Thanks again for the info.

2009 Update

I have had my Nuvi 660 for about 1 month (love it) and registered it with Garmin three days ago.

I was able to get a free upgrade to the 2009 maps.

You should give it a try....

Happy travling

I had an error like others

I had an error like others saying I wasn't eligible to download the update. I bought my 760 from Ebay. After a couple days of painless emails with Garmin all I had to do was send them my receipt and serial number and they hooked me up.

can i download sounds? please help

yeah i just downloaded my new map ,but someone tell me, can i download sounds on my nuvi 200

No MP3 sounds but you can use WAV

rose payton wrote:

The 200 (like our 260) does not have an MP3 player so you cannot use MP3 sound files. You can however convert them to wav files and they will work for alerts. There are lots of threads in this forum on this and you might checkout the following web site:

Hope this helps!

not 2 impressed with the map

not 2 impressed with the map update overall, there are still a lot of areas missing information and I live in a large city.

I got the map update a few

I got the map update a few months ago. It did seem a little better but not what I expected

I plan on waiting until 2010

I plan on waiting until 2010 before I get an update I dont see the need to update as I dont travel that much on roads that i dont know already.

Nuvi 360 backup

Excuse my ignorance but how do you back up the files?

.

Just copy them from your nuvi drive to your hard drive while the GPS unit is connected to the computer with the USB cable.

Updated Maps

I agree , I would not like to purchase it if it's not properly updated

I just delete the old map

I just delete the old map file off my unit then load the new map file. Its under the folder garmin and is usually gmapsup and is a .img file that is roughly 1.1GB. Its much easier than having to delete voice files etc.

Free update still available

Just wanted to add that the free update is still available, bought a Nuvi 780 and discovered the update when I registered it. They delivered it in 4 days!! When I asked support about creating routes on my PC, they then sent me (free) Mapsource... Which should probably have been sent with the 2009 Update.

It is on the update DVD, but it's a bit tricky to find and load to your computer. Plus, you need an unlock code from them (Garmin) in order to use it when you load it off the update disk. Glad that you are finding what all of us Garmin users have (at one time or another) found - you cannot beat them for technical support!

Anyone else having this problem?

It's a big file.

It took me about 45 min to download mine, then another 90 min for the install.

Safely Remove

To jsggps:

One pretty safe way of making sure nothing gets screwed up when unplugging your Nuvi from the computer is to shut down the computer completely. Wait until the computer has completely shut down and then unplug your Nuvi.

The reason that message comes up is that Windows THINKS its doing something with your Nuvi. Now maybe it is and maybe it isn't. Sometimes just waiting for a little while (several minutes if not longer) will allow you to use the "safely remove" function and you won't get any warning.

If you are getting that message a lot, definitely us the shut down technique. And do a backup of your Nuvi so if something goes wrong you don't lose it all.

2009 maps

I got a free map update yesterday with my Nuvi 350 purchase.

Your Coordinates

Typed in the coordinates and it shows 14468 E. 48th St or 13202 S. Avenue 14 1/2 E.

2009 Updates

I wonder if Garmin/Navteq will ever start doing a "middle of the year/July" UPDATE like they do for the BlueCharts maps ?

If they can do it for that product... why not the Street Maps ?

Tim

How do I get a $10 upgrade

How do I get a $10 upgrade DVD?

.

Log on to your my.garmin.com site.

Register your device.

The details will be on the page.

Only if you are eligible for free update.

$10 cost is for shipping and handling.

2009 update

Downloaded mine prior to my trip to Illinois, and what was not formally available showed up. My son built a new home in a subdivision and their address was on the map, also the POI's for the rest areas along the way proved extremely helpful.
I have been singing the praises of my Nuvi760

2009 Map Update

I'm in here reading everyday regarding this 2009 map update, but have yet to see any improvement with the 2008 update I bought last year. Same dead end streets are still there. Can anyone help me check if there is a correction made in the Westfield, NJ where I still end up on a dead end street.

Cuttoff date

I think it may be based on when you register your gps. I have a friend who bought a garmin gps about the same time my mom did. He registered his and she didn't. She got the update for free and he had to buy one.

its based upon the first

its based upon the first time the gps had acquired a satellite signal. also, if you buy a gps and don't register it for a long duration of time, you won't be entitled to squat. why would you be? if i bought a product in 2005, waited until 2008 to call the company about a free item 3 years ago- what do you think that company is going to say? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! is a good start.
common sense is not so common

2009 Maps

Has anyone noticed alot of changes on the new maps?

Alan, you can preview the map changes yourself.

Go to Garmin.com and then click on maps tab. Then click "on the road maps". At the top of the list you will find "City Navigator NT". At the end of that same paragraph, you will see a blue hyperlink called "North Ameica" Click on that, once thats done look to the right and click on it again once is listed on Mapsource Map Viewer and you will be shown the map and can zoom in to check out any area you would like.

Hard to Say...

lupo wrote:

Country-wide, I'm sure there are a lot of changes. The only way to tell is to look at an area you are familiar with, and try to extrapolate it from that. For me (living in a small town in Middle Georgia), there were a lot of changes. Consequently, I'd have to say that the update was worth it. Again, that is just based on small town improvements.
