Speed limits on the 2730?

No idea. However, after the update, I see the SPEED LIMIT on the map pages. I love having the speed limit on the map. No more wondering what the speed limit is or if it changed when I wasn't noticing. The speed limit is right there on the screen.

That alone makes it worth the time to do the free upgrade. If you aren't eligible for the free upgrade then I can't tell you if there's a compelling reason to upgrade or not.

Do the speed limits show up on older Garmins like my 2730?

I bought a new Nuvi 780 that was deliverd last Wednesday. After seeing the discussion here, I registered the unit on Saturday. I had a minor problem because I have old man eyes and misunderstood which number was the SN - then I had a real hard time reading the real one. I started the download then went to bed. I think it took about four hours. Then it took about another hour to load it. I like the speed limit feature - even down to some pretty small streets.

Costco has the 2009 update online for 54.95 and it shows in stock.

Changes

Golly - they forgot my little Burg of Warner Robins, GA, which has a BUNCH of changes in the update! BTW - the update is GREAT!

Mine too - I sent my neighborhood coordinates to Navteq. You can submit map feedback from their home page at navteq.com; pretty straight forward process.

We'll see if it makes it in the 2010 update. I am not holding my breath.

I meant that the listing of cities with changes did not include Warner Robins. The update DID. Couldn't be happier!!

Garmin Updated

I purchased the new maps since I travel often for work. For the price of us going out to eat, I got new maps. I think that is a good deal.

In case some of you are not aware, you can preview every map release at Garmin's website http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/
This tool allows you to see at the lowest level possible, which will help you answer the question, "Did they add my street?" before you buy.

ok, either I missed the speed limits not paying attention, or this feature doesn't work on my Nuvi 350. On an up note, the maps seem to be more accurate, and up to date.

DSL Download

I just downloaded and installed 2009 maps on my Garmin 200W. It only took all day yesterday over my Verizon DSL. It crawled at about 88 kb/s. Despite the lost time with my GPS, everything loaded smoothly.

got mine downloaded last night and today....takes hours..got my Nuvi 200 for my birthday thurs

2009 map

Why not just download your map from Garmin and save the shipping cost.I did and everything downloaded perfeftly. The only downside is the several hours it takes.

20009 Map Update ...

There's a good chance you will get it since you just purchased it. Garmin's customer service is GREAT. You can either call or email and ask for it.

Good Luck!

My streets are also there :)

With the 2008NT version of software, my Nuvi 680 would simply show approx half a mile of drive in a no-street area. As I got the 780 version, the gps actually announced driving off-road to get home, yeah right....! After updating to 2009NT, I am able to drive on the streets to get home smile

After seeing how long it

After seeing how long it takes for the download I decided to opt for the DVD. Got it in 2 days from Garmin.

$10 to ship a 5oz disc seems a little much to me. Is access to MapSource worth it?

If you have a Nuvi other

If you have a Nuvi other than the 7xx then you can only manager your waypoints(Favorites) using mapsource. If you have a 7xx then you can create your own routes using mapsource. You could get mapsource free by downing the training center http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99...
and then download the mapsource update http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

Dear Blue,

I have all my POIs in sub-directories under the POI directory. One of those sub-directories is called "Waypoints". In that sub-directory I have created a file for each route I may take and list the waypoints (e.g., a good place to stop for coffee in Great Bend, PA, where they also have clean facilities).

For those that don't have a 7xx of you can still use MapSource to build CUSTOM POIs in the GPX format. And those that have NUVIs that can support TourGuides they can be built on MapSource also.

2009 Map update

I just bought a 660 and registered it at the website. They offered me the free update download right there. Took an hour to download, another hour to install, works great!

2009 Update

Downloaded mine and the Washington Beltway, the mixing bowl (95/495/395) as well as the Wilson Bridge project is NOT updated. Disregard the verbal and written directions around the mixing bowland follow the exit numbers. Those are still correct.
Around the Wilson Bridge It will tell you many times that it is recalulating but just ignore. This is on both the Virginia side and the Maryland side of the bridge. Eyes Open and pay attention to signs.
Be patient!

C320 Map Update

Has anyone been able to get the 2009 for the Streetpilot C320? Garmin site shows no map updates when I enter the serial number but tech support says they are available.

I think it depends on when you

either registered or purchased the unit. If you just purchased the unit and when you go to map updates on the Garmin site and it only shows the update as a purchase option, call tech support. I did for a 760 and they sent me one. ($10 for s/h) or you can opt to wait several weeks, while their software dept generates a number for you, and then spend a couple of hours down loading it....

c340 and 2009 update

I had to pay for mine even though I was supposed to get a free update, when I loaded it, all my water features dropped off. I live in Florida and it is nice to see the rivers lakes and canals. Anyone know what I can do to bring them back?

What do you mean water features dropped off?

I live across the street from a lake and it's shown even if I'm zoomed out to the point my street no longer shows... I just checked it disappears at the 5 mile range... But I can still see the ocean... wink

Water Water Everywhere...but slow to acquire?

I have plenty of water visible on my C340 post-update, including rivers and lakes and canals. Not sure what your issue is, but it didn't affect mine.

I am experiencing very slow acquisition of satellites once you turn on the C340, however, post update. It's like the first time you get a new unit, where it takes a long time to orient itself, but it does it every time now. Anyone else having this problem? Or was this part of the firmware update?

Map update

Just got my 760 today and it had 2008 maps installed. Do you think I will be eligible for the free upgrade?

Just bought a 760

and it has 2008 maps. I expected a free 2009 update and it was not available on the Garmin website so I called and asked about it. This is a known problem at Garmin (not offering the update for free). The fellow I talked to said he would alert tech support and get me the free update by email in the next couple of weeks.

Speed limit on map.

Hi, I'm new at this GPS thing. Can you tell me how to get the speed limit to show on the map please. I have a nuvi 750.

Thank you

Speed Limit on Map

With the 2008 maps the speed limit would only show up for highways. With the 2009 map upgrade I noticed the speed limit will also show up for some side streets. It happens automatically, there is no option that I know of to turn the option on or off. Hope that helps. Jim Nuvi 750

Speed Limit

From what I have read it is automatic on some interstates. Here on I-101 I have not seen it either.

Thanks

Thank you for information. I was able to download the update but it definitely takes a while to install on the GPS.
