This week we're recognizing daddydave.

This spring, daddydave created a new POI file for "Death Valley National Park", which includes over 70 noteworthy sites in and around the park.

And during this summer season, daddydave has been updating the page with advisories for things like road and trail conditions, heat advisories, and other park news.

Digital drivers licenses in California

I'm not keen on the idea of digital drivers licenses...

This week we're recognizing bear007

Bear007 recently started a thread describing a map update problem he was having with his Zumo 665.

Over the course of the discussion, he learned his Zumo 655 was no longer supported by Garmin. But with help from several POI Factory members, bear007 was eventually able to arrive at a working solution using OpenMapChest.

IOS 16.6 now available

For iphones and ipad.

What Is Your Go To For POIs When Traveling?

As posted above, what is your "go to" for POIs when traveling? Say you are looking for a gas station or a restaurant. Do you check your Garmin GPS first, Google maps or something else? Are there certain POIs from here that you regularly download to keep up-to-date on certain favorite things?

Who Updates Their Maps More Often, Google Maps or Open Street Maps?

This is now a roundabout. It opened last week. Who updates their maps more often, Google Maps or Open Street Maps?

Danger, Danger Will Robinson... your GPS is about to be toast

...along with all your other electronics.

OK, yeah, an unabashed clickbait topic header and more FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) that I don't believe myself, but I swear we get at least one of these stories every year:

This week we're recognizing bdhsfz6.

Bdhsfz6 recently shared some helpful posts that are informed by his many years of experience hunting USCGS benchmarks & geocaching as hobbies.

In particular, several people really liked his description of a way to check the accuracy of a GPSr by visiting a USCGS Classic Horizontal Control benchmark (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/53280#comment-555141).

Adding GPS Coordinates to Photos

I'm looking for a tool to add GPS coordinates to photos. I just tried gpsimgr, but you have to use the Pro version, because they can no longer afford to pay Google's exorbitant fees.

It looked like a great little online tool. They restricted to 5 photos a day, to do it for free, and that's perfect for me.

Any ideas?

Mesothelioma question

With so many mature males on this board I was wondering if anyone has/had been diagnosed with: "Epithelioid malignant mesothelioma"

Your experience?
Thx

House Numbers On Open Street Maps

I have been using Open Street Maps (OSM) lately and in some areas it shows the actual house/building number on a diagram of the house.

Standard and CyclOSM OSM maps have that. What other maps have that?

Interesting software on some Dodge products

There recently was a nearby theft of a late model Dodge Hellcat. It came out that the 700+ HP Hellcat and maybe some Challengers since 2021 may have a rather innovative security system that has won some design engineering awards. It is called the Enhanced Security Mode and replaces the standard Valet Mode.

This week we're recognizing Jim1348, BobHy, and ruggb.

Over the last month, they shared their experiences using Open Street Map (OSM) on Garmin devices. I'm happy to see projects like OSM adding new life and capabilities to electronic devices that might otherwise end up as "e-waste" in a landfill.
