This week we are recognizing Bob.Sedona!
Bob.Sedona has been a member for several years but just recently joined the ranks of the file maintainers. Not only did he take over a couple of abandoned files (Rosati’s & UNO Chicago Grill), but he also submitted the new Heritage Steam Railroads And Scenic Trains file.

Low Clearance POI
Is there a "Low Clearance" available for RVers to load on to my Garmin? If so, how do I find it? Did a search but nothing popped up.

Friday morning service outage - 1/3/2014
POI Factory was unavailable for a little while this morning due to network troubles at our web hosting facility.
The problem lasted about an hour and was resolved just before 1:00 pm Eastern (10:00 am Pacific).
The failure was traced to an electrical problem in the data center, which disabled a network switch and interrupted our connection to the Internet.

Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? – January 2014
In danger of losing your windmill?
Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).
Anything to keep your windmill alive.
This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Need help from FAQ Authors
An "Index" to all of our FAQs/Pages/Reference has recently been added.
see http://www.poi-factory.com/faq/index
One of the purposes of the Index is to allow a user to find pertinent information regardless of whether or not the "Tag" that might describe the information appears in the title of the FAQ itself.

Hello, I'm new here.
Hi everyone. I'm pretty much a new user here, but I happened to come across this site and found it to be very interesting and useful; it's great how people make these files so you don't have to pay for a map upgrade to keep your GPS up-to-date; I was one of the people who didn't want to pay for a map update, so as time went by my Magellan SE4 became way out-of-date.

Personal Navigation Devices (PND's) versus Cell Phone GPS apps
I'm guessing that PND's will always be around for car navigation.
The cons of cell phones for navigation include the smaller size of the screen, less accurate routing, unreliable cell tower service, tying up the phone while the app is running, and the cost for the app.
And as far as I know, you can't save your own POI's in the phone as you pass a location. Maybe I'm wrong about this.

Suggestion for POI Contributors regarding changes
When you update your POI files please remember to update the POI's LOGBOOK so the change history can be noted. OR alternatively, please note the change within the text of the POI file node.
This makes it easy for everyone to decide if the new POI is worthy of a download. If just one minor change was made I often don't download the file.

GPS is new tool to help police crack cases, but critics worry about privacy
I have posted this here just an case anybody here is interested in the non-navigation aspects of GPS. Merry Christmas!
http://www.startribune.com/local/east/237206511.html?page=al...
But critics worry about privacy — when, where and how it’s used by law enforcement officers.
