File conversion (streets & trips)

If

If the POI file is in GPX format and you have Streets & Trips 2010 or newer you can display the POIs in S&T by going to Data - Import GPX file in the S&T menu system.

If you using an older version of S&T then I don't think you can display the POIs there.

If the POI file is only available in CSV format then you will need another program like Extra POI Editor to convert the CSV file to GPX before you can import it into S&T. It's possible you could display the contents of a CSV file using S&T's Data - Import Data Wizard function but I've never attempted to do that so can't be sure it will work.

Thanks for the help. GPX

Thanks for the help. GPX file jumped into S&T but CSV not so much. Used Import Wizard for CSV. Files "bunched" together. Will attempt again later. I'm using S&T 2011. Thanks again

Glad

Glad you got the GPX part working. Here is the link to Extra POI Editor which will easily convert the CSV files to GPX and you can then get them in to S&T easily:

Just load the CSV file into EPE and then so a Save As and save the file contents as a GPX file.

A question

Someone told me that the way the Lat/Long is displayed in CSV is different from the way it is in a GPX file.
Something about in decimals vs degrees?
Does EPE do the proper conversion?
I like to see a waypoint displayed in MapSource using GPX files which I can't do in a CSV file.

I

I just took the Dunkin Donuts CSV file from here and attempted to drag and drop it into Mapsource. Your right Mapsource will not load the CSV file.

I opened the CSV file in EPE and saved it as a GPX file which when dragged into Mapsource opened with no problem.

I've never had an issue with converting CSV to GPX using EPE.

Thanks, that's the answer I was hoping for.
Edit:
Just downloaded EPE and loaded a CSV file into it, saved it as GPX and BINGO there she be.
Actually did it faster than I can type it.

EPE

Anyone else getting a SCRIPT error message with EPE.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate.

Also after using it for about 1 hour it just locked up. Only way to get it to work again was to do a complete delete including in the registry.

Perhaps not only way

Look at the Index

or click on the "Learn" button at top right of page and scroll down to
"INDEX to FAQs and Other Pages"

Find and click on "Extra POI Editor (EPE):" and you will be taking to a listing of (hopefully) all of the FAQs that mention EPE.

The one of interest right now will be

What are the details of the script error? What were you trying to do when the error occurred? Which POI file were you working with?

Some EPE functions such as View All POI on Map cause script errors and have not yet been recoded for the new Google Maps interface.
