Garmin talk

I need to send a route to my 765T but after setting it up in Mapquest I get "Garmin device not detected". I have tried it on an XP and a Vista PC with exact same results using Firefox 3.5.3.

Now I just tried it using IE 7 under Vista and it works. I'm pretty sure I used the same Firefox browser just this past Sat. night and it worked then. I haven't made any system changes since Sat..

Not sure if this is the right forum but I have a question. I downloaded the POI loader and a POI file from Garmin. My usual download site is D:\Downloads. When I launch POI downloader and point to my directory I am told there are no files there although they are. Question: Do these files have to be in the Garmin directory? I have downloaded the files in the correct format.

Can someone tell me how to activate the free lifetime traffic on my 1490T? It told me that I have to go online to obtain a code before I can activate, but I can't find it... Thanks!

I've a Nuvi 285w. This past weekend I discovered this wonderful site and downloaded a bunch of POI files, their associated icons and a few sounds. I made sure the filenames of the associated POI, icon and sound files are exactly the same (excepting the file extension, of course). Some of my POI sets don't display their icon. Some do.

Well, my replacement 855 is going to get an RMA number today but the question I need to figure out is, do I ask for an exchange (again) or a refund?

The second 855's operation was much better than the first, which didn't last long before it totally froze up, but I started seeing issues after 3 days of use with the replacement.

My Nuvi 660 has the traffic receiver built in, but I've never subscribed to this feature. Can I use the free traffic (with ads) and if so, how do I add this feature?

Just updated lifetime maps on my Nuvi 660. Now I have 2 map files on the device:
2009 and also 2010:40. Can I/Should I delete the old file? If so, how? When the Nuvi is connected to my Mac, I see the files, but nothing with the names of the particular map files.

I recently updated the software on my nuvi 660 (maybe about a month ago). Well after the upgrade, my traffic map seemed to stop working. It no longer shows as green or red depending on traffic. My gps did not come with lifetime traffic, but I have paid to have it for lifetime. After sending an e-mail to garmin, they are simply saying to upgrade the software again. The software IS up to date.

New to Garmin had other GPS I couldn't mess with. I have a new garmin 1390T when I connected it to my PC I got in there and started removing files. I did make backups but i think I missed one or 2 files or folders.

Is there a way to get it back to its defualt base load (Like my other 2 GPS's) With all the defualt languages, and cars, and Voices?

First post at POI Factory, but I'm hoping someone can help me out regarding multiple maps on my Vista HCx.

I have 2 issues, both regarding the same problem, but one needs to happen before the other.

I'm trying to do the initial free map update for a Nuvi 285W I just bought. I downloaded the file using the Garmin downloader. The file made it OK (garmin_rmu_cnnant2010_40.dmg.dlm is on my mac with a size of 2.4GB). The download program froze however but strangely downloaded the entire file despite being frozen at 31%. I shut down the frozen downloader.

I got the new 1390T and when I try to see if it is the latest I do not know how to check on the unit and at Garmin. can you walk me through the process?

nuvi 1390T What is the format for the POI file type? CSV or GPS and where can I validate it at Garmin? And last part, how do I load it in. I dont see a POI loader for the 1390T

Hey guys, this is all new to me but I purchased a G510 back in 05 if I remember correctly, I think im really starting to confuse it though because im using non exsisting on and off-ramps and driving down streets running into houses and buildings (so it thinks). what would the latest version of map updates be and the fastest way to obtain it?

Can anyone tell me how to get the old POI's out so that I can update the file? tks

Do I need to update/purchase new/least verson of Map if I only drive in city? Thanks.

Since my Nuvi 200 doesn't have enough internal memory for the mapping that I want, I'm running 2010.4 off of a 4gb SD card. From Map Info, I unchecked the outdated internal map (2008 or something like that).
I thought about copying the POI folder and adding it to my SD card, but I checked a known red light camera location and it was there in the new map.

When entering new favorites on to my 255wt, is it more accurate to enter the addresses off of say Google maps or actual coordinates? I've noticed that when I go with the addresses my GPS will tell me I'm at the address when in fact I may be a hundred or even two hundred yards away. Thanks

Probably others have run into the same problem, but navteq the source for garmin's maps has errors throughout, ie, delivery trucks told me they were being sent two miles east of my home location when they would arrive late after having called. Sure enough when I tried to locate my property it indicated an eastern location from actuality.
