Garmin conncted GPS
I found this article rather interesting
It seems like Garmin will shortly be releasing a "connected" GPS for the masses. Just when you thought it was safe to put away that credit card ...
Seriously, a connected GPS from the market leader will surely be a good thing. With faster connection speeds and content availability, GPS is in for some big changes.

760 & Hotfix
Can anyone say for sure whether or not the 760 has "hotfix"? Either in the unit right from the factory or if not, will a software update have hotfix in it? Need to know for sure as it could be the determining factor in whether or not I buy the 760 or the 755t. I know the 755t has hotfix plus lane assist, but I also understand the lifetime traffic is ad supported.

Problem with Garmin POI Loader freezing up
I'm having problems with POI Loader freezing up on more than 10,000 POI's. (not an exact number, but roughly where I'm losing capacity) All files are .gpx, converted to that format from .csv files via Turboccc's Extra_POI_Editor 2.99. Computer is a Compaq Presario 1500 with 256MB RAM. Windows XP.
POI Loader takes my files from

This is for everyone that has either a nuvi 760 or nuvi 765. I was trying to download the 3.4 Garmin update to my 765 and was having an absolutely awful time with it. ![]()

Software Update 755T
I just updated, via Webupdater, the software for my 755T. I believe it went to 4.40. I did not make a point to write down the version and the changes. Will make a point next time so that I can post them.

Nuvi 8 Series Software Update to 4.40
Changes from version 4.30 to version 4.40:
Note: Due to new POIs in recent maps, this update enables display of POIs on the map. If you would like to disable them, touch 'Tools -> Settings -> Map -> Down Arrow -> Enabled (adjacent to Show POIs) -> Hide All'.
Corrected POI display behavior in newer maps.
Improved handling of Safety Camera messages.

Quirky Directions
I have a nuvi 680 and it seems to give me different directions to the same place from the same route sometimes, and i havent changed the shortest route or the fastest time setting. One time it will take me one way and the next time maybe a diffferent route , anyone else experience this ?

.gmp files
While running a backup on my computer, I noticed the software backing up .gmp files. A quick search showed that when I upgraded my new 780 maps to 2009, it appears a Garmin folder was created with a sub folder called Product1 with about a gig of gmp files each in it's own sub folder. Anyone know what these are and do I need to keep them?

Extra_POI_Editor question
I've been surprising myself by how easy it is to make personal POI's using the Extra_POI_Editor. However, I have a question. I put an alert signal of 50 or 75 meters on a residendual address and the Garmin never beeps unless I have that particular address programmed as the destination. I thought it was supposed to beep when we drove by enroute to another destination. I'm using a Nuvi 260.

785 or 885
A friend of mine is looking at the Garmin 885 and the 785. Looks like the only difference is the 785 has 3D buildings and the 885 doesn't. The 885 has everything else plus voice command. Which would you recommend?
I still like my 760. It does everything I need it to do and I bought the MSN package. Of course, the XX5 have the upgraded MSN (more gadgets!).
