Custom Icons in GPX file

Hi all,

I have used Map Source to turn my .csv POI files into .gpx files. I added custom .jpg icons for some of the entries. I went into Mapsource, selected waypoint properties. I changed the selection to image, and browsed to the image, which is stored in the JPEG folder on my GPS.

When I did a route simulator I only have dots for the locations I changed, not the .jpg image. I do have my bitmap icons for the files I haven't converted to .gpx

What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks

.

Linking an image file to Waypoints in MapSource will not result in Custom icons for your Custom POIs on your GPS unit if that's what you are looking for.

In order to get Custom Icons for your Custom POIs, you need to follow these instructions.

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359

custom bmps don't show up in nuvi 260

I downloaded from here the csv and bmp files, named them both CT.CSV and CT.BMP, and when I run the nuvi poi loader it grabs the addresses, sticks them into the EXTRAS folder under CUSTOM POIs, does not associate the BMP with the POI and does not create any sub-folders....any ideas? thanks so much.

You should see these Icons

You should see these Icons on both map screens (when driving and / or navigating). You must be zoomed in.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'does not create sub-folders'.

Let us know if they are there.

If you choose a location from within Extras\Custom-POIs and choose show map, what icon shows -- default grey dot, or the custom bmp?

As for "sub-folders", I assume you mean categories under Custom-POIs. Those categories are created by creating sub-folders on the computer and pointing to the parent. Motorcycle Mama has explained as follows:

You can have subfolders under your main folder, if you want. The folders will create categories. You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.

Here are some screenshots of what it would look like.

This is a shot of the folder and files on my computer.

This is how the first level shows up on my Zumo.

When I select the National Parks category, this is what I get.

Then if I select National Monuments, I get this.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

understanding the question...

If I understand correctly;

You edit/changed csv files to gpx files and added an image using mapsource. That's fine and you will see the image In Mapsource.

To view that custom jpg as an icon for a poi on your gpsr you will still need to load the gpx file and bmp file using poi loader. All other rules still apply, exact naming of files, and zooming in etc.

........Garmin StreetPilot c550 / Nüvi 765...........

jpeg vs bmp - they are different

bmp icon shows up on map(s) when zoomed in as small icons.

jpegs show up when you select custom poi and get to the Go screen. It shows up as a thumbnail under the poi name (top left). You can click on it and get a full screen view on jpeg. This 'jpeg in custom poi' is similar to attaching a jpeg to a favorite.
