How do You like your 265WT

I am thinking of upgrading my garmin 750 to a garmin 265wt. Does anyone want to share your like/dislike for the 265wt?

It will help me make up my mind.

Read my post (fourth down) where I compare my likes and dislikes for 265wt vs 760.

I have owned my 265 for 5

I have owned my 265 for 5 months now and more then happy with the features. The faster processor and hot fix always gives me a much faster satellite signal then my c340.I have used it on several trips around FL.The volume of the speaker is very good.It comes with lots of new features including Bluetooth and free FM Traffic.

265wt vs 750

I cannot comment on the 750 as I have never used that one, but the 265wt is great in my opinion. I have no problems with the unit it acquires the satellites fast and give reasonably accurate directions for my purposes.

This might help

Excellent find

Excellent find here. Essentially the same conclusions I came to when after using both. I do find that I occasionally wish that I had the routing feature, but I think the new map interface makes up for it. When I have routing to be done I put the 265wt into simulator mode and then "Set Location" to where I would like to start. Save this to favorites, then each point along the route is saved to favorites. Then when it comes time to run that route, just input it from the favorites. You can have several via points on the 265wt. And with the ability to change the category of each favorite, you essentially have a poor man's routing anyway. Just save each route as a new favorite category.

The other thing I miss is the powered mount.

I have the 265WT and love it.

I have the 265WT and love it. I also have the 885T and except for the voice activation, I really like the 265T as much and it even has a few bells and whiltles that the 885 doesn't have. I have had no problems with it and think you will like it. Of course, if you need mp3, it doesn't come with that.

Nuvi 265wt is good

Except it does not support multiple destinations.

It does not support routes but you can use more then one via point to your go location. The manual only says one via point.According to other posts on this subject you can add more. Not only for the 265 but other 2x5 units.

Multiple via's

I also like my 265WT a lot. It calculates routes pretty fast, and always gets me to my destinations. I think the feature I like the most is just the next turn arrow. The traffic is good enough for what it is (not 100% up to current situations, but thats the problem with the traffic provider and not Garmin).

It has acted strange a few times (ie: weird distorted voice, freezing), but luckly, a power-off then power-on again fixes the problem usually. I only had to do a hard reset once.

Regarding multiple vias, I only tried it 2-3 times and it behaved weirdly for me sometimes. It has reordered my vias maybe 2 times. Once it reordered the vias and the distination, setting one of the vias as my distination. Luckly I had a faint idea of where the locations were so I didn't just blindly follow the GPS.

Nuvi 265WT Voice Mute

It appears that you can not mute the navigation voice without muting the whole volume. This is bad if you are using your Nuvi as a bluetooth device also.

Got the 265WT for my dad as

Got the 265WT for my dad as a father day gift. So far he like the next turn arrow a lot.

It is a nice unit for the money

I like the larger screen of the 265WT and the traffic. It has a nice combination of features for the money.

I have a 360 also and I must say that I like the screen on the 360 better as it has more detail and shows cross streets as you pass them. 265wt does not but all in all a good solid unit

i seriously should get the

i seriously should get the 265wt...sounds like a great model.

265WT

Well since my 765T is now a paperweight thanks to Garmin, I borrowed by daughter's 265WT for a trip until my replacement arrives, and have been using it for the past couple of days.

All in all, I think its a very nice unit. The voice quality (speaker?) and the voice pronounciations are not as good at my 765T, but acceptable. The traffic / power cord is a bit clunky compared to the 765T and it does not have the powered cradle which I like. The navigation is good and the screen is nice and bright just like the 765T. The traffic service and Bluetooth work well. I would not hesitate to buy one if need be.

265T

I have the 265T and it meets all my needs. Blue tooth, via points in routes, fast sat pick up, very bright in daylight, easy to read. Strongly recommend it to anyone.

A Couple of questions

Can someone tell me what map version comes with the 265T and what is the best price you seen on this unit and where?

Thanks

You get 1 free update of the maps from Garmin within 60 days of the unit acquiring satellites for the first time.

Best price reported so far is around $220.

Just got one.

Actually its coming in the mail soon as just ordered one. Only borrowed a Garmin GPS like 3 times before and had to admit once I was off the paper map trail, it did get me back on the road so finally ordered one yesterday.

Beginning to search for info on how to use it and found this site. So any tips and info - I gotta say they are useful.

For the 200 series

For WAV alerts to play in the 200 series units you need a program called SOX.exe placed in the same program files folder containing POILoader.exe. This will allow the 200 series Nuvis to convert a WAV file to their internal sound file format. It doesn't work for playing music, just alerts.

Here is some added information that may help you on the alerts using wav.

a.Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. Wav files are also on site for download.

Select manual mode on poiloader to set speed or distance for alert.

I got a new 265WT and it works fine. Is there any Garmin POIs on the unit that comes as OEM? I do not seem any POI show up while I was driving.

priced right garmin 265wt

Garmin 265WT

I just purchased one for my wife... she travels only occasionally, and would just need for basic stuff. I got the 265WT due to the bluetooth for her 'phone' needs while driving wink and it was refurbished so very affordable. Normally wouldn't have gotten this one for her needs, but since so affordable, I purchased this one.

We love it... simple, easy to use. Uploaded some pics and extra cars and voices... free map upgrade... great unit... So far I have had awesome experiences with Garmin support.. .fast and always helpful.

Biggest issue I forsee is the speaker... seemed like the sound won't be the quality I would love to have, but my wife says it's fine for her... and the people she calls say she sounds fine on the other end.

I have had my 265WT since last Thanksgiving and love it.

I have a 350 that I was thinking of replacing, since I needed new maps. I bought this model and it ended up returning it. One big thing was the lack of power mount. Why would they get rid of that? Plus the website wouldn't let me update and I didn't feel like being on hold. The speaker phone for the BT is terrible as well. It would be nice if you could just have that for display only and still talk on a BT headset.
It does have some nice features and upgrades from my model, but just not what I was hoping for.

For some reason they don't

For some reason they don't show up until you touch the screen in the area where you want to see POIs.

Which service and receiver is it that shows a radar display? Is the radar display available in all cities that have the service?

265WT issue

I bought my daughter a 265WT, and have used it several times while my unit was in the shop. I think its a very nice GPS except for the audio speaker sounds bad. If you turn it up too loud the voice gets distorted and it sounds tinny compared to my 765T, but aside from that it works great.

Nuvi 256 WT

Got mine for $216 at Costco. So far I'm having a ball with it. I have 3 other GPS units but this is the first "on the road" unit.

I've had it about a week but don't really understand the "map update". When I go to Garmin they say there are no map updates available. So I guess I have the latest ... but what about the free update within 60 days?

265wt weather function +

I'll look at the receiver, I think its the gdb-55 Purchased from Garmin to replace the one it came with. The original can't receive or be "authorized" by the MSN system. You do need to do an update from Garmin if you havn't done one yet. The newer ones might already have it. This allows the GPS to do all of this after spending the money for that particular receiver and the MSN "stuff". It seems to work well with one caution. It takes a little while for the receiver to collect all the information that the GPS can display and the radar function is the slowest. I leave my receiver plugged into the active lighter connection in my Sport Trac. This will keep it updated just about all the time. It does work and has informed me of weather items when I am on the road. They have recently fixed the flight times issue, This I use often and works well.
So far the weather function has worked about 80% of the time. It sometimes states that a connection is required or more time is needed to download the data. This function has worked everywhere that has had service. Check the MSN site for service areas, I found this check fairly critical before going somewhere cause the GPS functions simply stop when you leave an area, there is no indications or notice that you are leaving or arriving in service areas. The thing simply stops receiving and waits until it receives signals again.

Traffic accuracy

I question the accuracy of the traffic (I think that would be more a function of the signal that is being broadcast than the GPS). I live in the Baltimore area and have seen reports of traffic, when there is none - likewise experienced traffic, but was not warned about it. Can anybody else report on their traffic experience?

Very good GPS for the money.

lag the actual conditions by as much as 30 minutes. But some warning is better than none.

Wish it sent an audible signal before turn...or if you have the option for some sort of tone.

I can not help but wonder how many of the nits listed will be fixed in a software update vs the need for a different (new) model.. I have been looking at the 265WT as a second unit and would first want some of the problems fixed...

you'll turn blue. wink Some of us have been waiting over a year and a half for them to fix the mp3 player skipping problem when an audio alert plays. In the mean time, my model was discontinued.

So, I've learned to use wav files as the established workaround.

Nuvi 265WT Voice Mute

Yeah, that's a big huge flaw, in my opinion. It should be a very simple fix, but so far, no update has done it. A workaround might be to add a voicefile that is "blank", i.e. has no TTS information. Choose that one, and you should have no sound except alerts and phone.

265WT

My first GPS after owning an iQue 3600 for almost 5 years, was a 265WT in May of this year. I really liked it but a couple of weeks into it the voice got all garbled. A reset solved the problem and then I got hooked! So I returned it to CostCo and bought a 765T. Both units behaved similarly, though it seems the screen draws a little fster. Also the 765T has 3D and junction view, which nice but not really worth the extra money (IMHO). What made me go over to the 765T was the power mount, not having to unplug the cable everytime I connect the GPS. I never leave it in the car, so that was the feature that sold me on going with a 7x5 or 8x5 series.

I have a 760, how is the

I have a 760, how is the mount different on the 265w

2x5 (& others) mount

nuvi 1xxx passive mount:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/alt-image.do?pID=35158&img=produ...

These are the non-powered (passive) mounting brackets used on most nuvis except for the nuvi 7x0/7x5/8x0/8x5/5000. No electrical connections are made through this mounting bracket. Electrical connections between the 12v power adapter & the nuvi are made solely through the mini-USB port on the nuvi. You snap the nuvi into the mount, then connect the mini-USB power connector to the back of the nuvi (or vise-versa).

nuvi 7x0/7x5 integrated mount:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/alt-image.do?pID=11028&img=produ...

As you know on the 760, all you do is snap the unit into the integrated mounting bracket & all electrical connections are made through the mount's 25-pin interface to the matching 25-pin interface on the nuvi. The 12v power adapter plugs into the side of the integrated mounting bracket.

If you're used to using an integrated mount, switching over to this other type of passive mount can definitely be a downgrade, especially if you connect/remove the unit from the mount every time you enter/leave the vehicle.
